If there is one thing I love about God it is that He promises and actively plans to do exceedingly more. I get excited when I think about that, and read in His Word to, “never doubt God’s power to work in you and to accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energised you.” (Ephesians 3:20 TPT)
To exceed is to experience or possess something to an extreme and unusual degree. It means exceptionally, to a great extent, immensely, supremely and every other “more” synonym you can think of.
If you look through the bible you will find God consistently doing and promising things exceedingly. Its part of His nature to do things that way so that we would have and experience exceedingly great joy, grace, peace, power, His glory and that our faith would grow exceedingly. (Matt 2:10; 2 Cor 4:17; 2 Cor 7:14; Ephesians 1:19 Ephesians 2:7; 2 Thessalonians 1:3)
God wants us to know that nothing is too big for Him to handle; no request or dream is too hard for Him to answer and no problem or situation too difficult for Him to fix. He wants us to dream and imagine bigger and better things. To ask extravagantly and to believe beyond our capabilities.
I love the account of Lazarus being raised from the dead because it demonstrates God’s “exceedingly” capacity. Jesus was only a few hours away from Lazarus’ home when word was sent that he was deathly ill. However Jesus did not come until it looked like it was too late, and by the time He and the disciples arrived Lazarus had been dead and buried for four days. Many asked, “could Jesus not have come and prevented this death of his close friend”? But Jesus was not too late, nor unable to answer their requests. He was simply setting up an “exceedingly beyond their wildest imagination” moment. The religious beliefs of the time were that a person’s spirit did not leave their body after death until the third day, so Jesus waited until the fourth day to make the miracle “exceedingly great”, and so that many would hear and see when he boldly called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead. “Roll the stone away”, he commanded and you will see the glory of God displayed. Jesus’ arrival was not too late, but merely a setup for God to answer in an unusually extreme and exceptional way. (John 11:1-44)
Today I encourage you to not give up believing or asking for God to show up and to perform an “exceedingly” in your life.
He is more than able, and has plans in progress already to achieve infinitely more that your greatest request, dream or wildest imagination. Let God’s word which is full of His exceeding great and precious promises encourage you today. (2 Peter 1:4)
Start to believe, dream, imagine and pray again for extravagant, out of the ordinary, miraculous things. Because as you do God says He will do abundantly more!
“Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry and he will say, “Here I am.”(Isaiah 58:9)
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” (1 John 5:14-15)
Prayer: Lord I thank you for your promises and that nothing is beyond your ability, for even out of nothing you created all that I see. I hold onto your promises today and believe for your exceedingly abundant life. In Jesus name amen.
