10 Dec – Rise Up !

Passivity is dangerous…mostly because being passive results in us lying down and allowing things to happen to us rather than rising up and causing things to happen for and through us.

Passivity will encourage us to let go, look down, roll over and beg for what is ours already. It’s insipid, will creep up on you if you’re not careful, and is designed to suck all our dreams, drive and energy from us.

The dictionary definition of passive is accepting or allowing what happens or what others do, without active response or resistance, which doesn’t sound like anything Jesus modelled or would want us to be a part of.

Instead He says, expect, believe, look up, rise up and keep moving! He tells the weak to declare they are strong, the poor they are rich, the broken they are whole, the sick healed and the lost found. Jesus was, and is never passive. He did not allow things to happen to Him but knew what He was doing, because He understood where He was going and the purpose for it all. Whatever happened He knew the “Why”, because He saw His role in the bigger picture which caused Him to respond actively rather than reacting negatively, or not at all.

Today if you have fallen down. If you are tired and lying in the dust, if you no longer know what to do, where to go or how to get there don’t let go of your courage. Look up! Look up at Jesus the author and finisher of your story. All of heaven is cheering you on, so rise up and dust yourself off and get heavens perspective and guidance for your next steps. Choose to reach out and to ask Jesus to help you because you are not alone in this. Seek out and listen to His word and do what He says for He has a plan for you and a way to fulfil it.

Beat the urge to be passive and to just take whatever comes. Instead get your fight on, take back what’s yours and Rise up today.

Do you see what this means -all those pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on. It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running – and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with God – he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honour, right alongside God. When you find yourself flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” (Hebrews 12:1-4 The Msg)

Here is a song by Lauren Daigle called “Rise up” to encourage you to shake off passivity and keep going today!

Prayer: Lord thankyou for your strength, comfort and perspective today. I’m choosing to look up, dust myself off and to Rise up in victory today. In Jesus name Amen.
