I was flicking through the news today and came across something that instantly triggered me into feeling unhappy and stressed. It made me realize how diligent we have to be to keep our peace and joy.
God wants us to feed our faith and starve our doubts . https://daylekinney.com/2021/02/09/9-feb-feed-your-faith-starve-your-doubts/ An important part of doing that is also to feed our happiness and pursue those things that make us thankful that we are alive.
Feeding happiness for me means focusing upon and being around inspiring people, spending time with Jesus and surrounding myself with relationships and pursuits that bring me joy. It’s listening to uplifting music, reading and watching things that benefit my life and seeking throughout my day to fulfil my purpose.
However, social media, the news, entertainment, people’s conversations and much of the world’s noise isn’t designed to feed happiness, but instead the opposite.
It’s precisely why it’s wise to regularly check up on ourselves and what we are putting into our lives. What are we actually “feeding” on?
There are so many amazing, wonderful people, places and blessings that God has made available and surrounds us with every day. He says that His mercies are new every morning and that this is the day He has made so that you can be glad about every single new day. He is faithful to His promises and will complete all He has started in us. He declares that with Him, we have overcome the world. (Lamentations 3:22; Duet 7:9; Ps 138:8; John 16:33)
The question is, “are we feeding on what God says and the truth of all Jesus has already done for us, or are we” eating up” the accounts of hopelessness, lack, sickness and fear?”
Every day we have a choice, so today I encourage you to determine to “feed happiness.” It will change your life by shifting you from fear to hope, and give you new energy and a motivation for life. Plus when you choose to“feed happiness,” you will very quickly become a source of blessing and constant encouragement to everyone you meet.
“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” (Philippians 4:8-9 The Message)
“Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad; for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Prayer: Lord, I give you all my worries and concerns today and exchange them for your joy. Please help me feed happiness today in all I listen to, watch, and be a part of and to then share it with others. In Jesus name Amen.
