When people are intimated or feeling insecure in themselves, sadly one of the first things they are apt to do is to shut down those around them. This is in an attempt to make themselves feel better, and to not have to face their own shortcomings or failings, because they are too busy pointing out other people’s.
Whenever we feel squished, put down or even controlled it is a sure sign that something is amiss. God never created us to be “put in a corner”, or even to be always quiet and not heard. He said, “let your light shine, and don’t hide it under a basket or bushel”. He wants the light; the life that He has planted in each one of us to shine forth, and bless the world. He wants the gifts and talents; the dreams and hopes we all have within us to cause life to bubble forth from every part of us. It’s what Jesus called zoe life- the life of God in us. He said, “I have come that you may have life, (zoe) and life more abundantly, until it overflows.” (John 10:10)
That’s what glorifies Him; that’s what draws others to Him through how we live; because when we are living and breathing, and loving the life that God has given us we become like a magnet to those around us. They want to know why we are so joyful and full of life, and we can tell them it’s because, “I’m running my race, I’m living the dream God placed in my heart, and I’m going for it with all I have”. If others don’t like that, or it threatens them for you to live that way, well that’s their problem, and their journey, not ours. Bless them and keep running!
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a lamp stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:15)
Today don’t let anyone put you in a corner, or try to squash down the life that you have been given. Find the thing that makes that life (that God type of life) bubble up on the inside of you, and go and do it with all your heart.
Prayer: Lord thank you for your life in me. Help me to discover or recover the things that you have placed in my life that cause me to have joy. Remind me to no longer let anyone put me in a corner, or try to squash those things down in me. In Jesus Name Amen.
