In amongst the busyness of my day I was reminded once again that life has it’s seasons. We are surrounded by the four seasons of nature that God has given every year. There are times to plant, and times to harvest. There are times when everything is cold and barren as the earth prepares for spring. However unlike the seasons of the earth, we have many, many seasons in our lives, and everyone is going through different seasons at different times.
Seasons where we may be busy studying at school or university, seasons of discovering who we are and what God is calling us to be, seasons of relationships, family, babies, children, working, and exploring the world. Then there are the seasons of amazing times with God; of harvest and excitement, and then of quiet, and preparation.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 says, “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up (harvest) that which is planted”.
A season could be described as a time frame or period in our life that has been allotted for something to happen. Just as God has arranged the seasons on earth, he also arranges the seasons in our lives.
The key is to define what season we are in, and to understand its significance whilst we are in it. Too often we can be wishing we were in another season, especially if we start looking at someone else’s growth, or nicer looking “season”. We then run the risk of missing all the benefits, preparation, replenishing, and nourishment that God has orchestrated for the season we find ourselves in.
God wants us to enjoy our life. To embrace the season we are in. He says “He has made everything beautiful in it’s time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11),
Make the most of each and every event, enjoy your life, and know that it’s okay to have fun. Enjoy your children if you have them, your grandchildren, your friends, your car, home, your day. Enjoy doing things you love; go fishing, shopping, meeting up with others, travel, exploring the world, trying new things. Everything has its purpose, and God wants to share and be involved in every season of our lives with us. The bible says “know that nothing is better for us than to rejoice, and to do good in our lives, that we should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all our labor, for it is a gift of God.” (v 12)
Even when we are in a season of change or transition God is there, and He never changes. He doesn’t change His mind about us, or suddenly have a different plan. He knows the beginning from the end, and He has the roadmap. Even when our life may feel like it is all over the place, and everything is changing He stays the same. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
“I the LORD do not change. “(Malachi 3:6)
“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil ” (Numbers 23:19)
Today whatever season you are in, know that God is constant. He wants to lead and guide you through every phase of your life, helping you to benefit and grow in each season. His love is the one consistent thing in the universe, and you can count on Him.
Here is a song to encourage you in whatever season you may find yourself in today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlgUUeQh0CQ
Prayer: Lord thank you that you know the beginning from the end and everything in between. Help me to enjoy each season of life, and to remember that your love for me never changes. In Jesus Name. Amen.
