Do you ever wish life was simpler? I often ponder on the simplicity of creation all around us and how the sun comes up and goes down, the tides ebb and flow, and the seasons change from summer, autumn, winter and spring every year. It’s like clockwork – effortless and consistent.
Yet all this has been designed in infinite detail by God in the rhythm He has set. It’s awesome in its simplicity. So why then do we feel like life can be anything but simple? It can instead can be very complicated, stressful and feel like we are going from one drama to the next. It can be chaotic!
God didn’t create our world or us to live in chaos. He created perfection, however when sin came into the world it caused an element of chaos to be released. That’s why we can be enjoying a gentle breeze and then suddenly experiencing a cyclone.
Our lifestyle also can experience elements of chaos where is no rhythm or ebb and flow. Instead we can find ourselves trapped by our choices as we succumb to the systems, pressures and expectations all around us.
So how do we change the rhythm? How do we get off the flustered, harried track we can find ourselves on so we can enjoy the journey more?
Jesus revealed how to live in God’s rhythm and by following His example and learning from Him we can do the same.
Jesus did three things:
He had times of solitude: He took time out to rest, to spend time alone with the Father. (Luke 6:12-13)
He had times of community: Jesus loved people and connecting with those around him. He shared with others around a meal, and spent time talking, laughing and enjoying others company. (Mark 2:15)
He had times of ministry: Jesus gave into the lives of others. He healed the sick, blessed, laughed, cried, and loved. (Matthew 8)
Take some time out and learn from Jesus’ His rhythm. He wants us to live free from the chaos, so look to Him and exchange your chaos for heavens pace, rhythm and song. He’ll show you the way and help you to enjoy the journey.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:27-30 MSG)
Prayer: Lord I want to live in your rhythm. I exchange my pace for your peace, and your ways instead of my mine today. In Jesus name Amen.
