What you are thinking every moment of every day becomes a physical reality in your brain and your body, affecting your whole body and health.
It’s why it is so important that we get rid of any of what I call “stinking thinking”. If we have thoughts that are contrary to what God’s word says we need to examine them, and either agree to make them a part of who we are or throw them out.
“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
The thoughts we think collectively form our attitude, which is our state of mind. It’s our attitude and not our DNA that determines much of our quality of life.
Our state of mind causes a real physical electromagnetic, and chemical flow in the brain that switches groups of genes on or off in a positive or negative direction based on our choices and subsequent reactions.
What does this all mean? It means we are not victims of our biology! Not our parents, grandparents, Aunt Gertrude or cousin Fred.
WE control our genes; our genes do not control us. Genes may determine physical characteristics but not psychological phenomena.
Our genes are constantly being remodelled in response to life experiences.
Scientifically this is called epigenetics: spiritually this is choosing to walk in Duet 30:19 “I have set before you blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
How we think, scientists have discovered has ramifications in the way the genes in our bodies express themselves.
Our thinking sets off an intricate and organised sequence of actions in our neurotransmitter, which causes a release of proteins, and energy that forms a signal.
This signal, which is created by our thinking passes through the membrane of the cell, travels to the cells’ nucleus and enters the chromosome, activating a strand of DNA.
Our DNA is zipped up, almost as though it is in a cocoon, until activated or unzipped by the signal.
When the DNA is zipped up it is dormant or inert.
So the zipped up DNA has to be opened so that the appropriate genetic code needed to build the protein can be read.
As it is opened and the code is read, RNA a type of protein that almost acts like a photocopier makes a copy of the code, which serves as a guide or plan to build the proteins within the machinery inside the cell.
This is called genetic expression.
We also have a switch gene called the Creb gene which we can choose to switch on and off with our thoughts.
Why is this all so important? We have lived with the understanding that our genes and genetic disposition to illness and our hereditary have the ultimate power over our health and mental wellbeing.
Genes may create an environment within us in which a problem may grow, a predisposition; but they do not produce the problem; we produce it through our choices and thoughts. Our choices act as the signals that unzip our DNA.
Genetic predispositions have become so entrenched in popular culture.
This thinking removes choice and accountability from the equation and is scientifically and spiritually inaccurate.
The bible says “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). But we don’t have to be. Look into God’s word, examine the breakthrough’s in neuroscience. They agree.
Your beliefs can take on physical existence. It’s a profound thought that something like a belief can make a positive or negative change in our cells.
We are in control of this. The choices you make today will affect your spirit, soul and body.
Examine your thoughts today, and what you believe about your life; your health, genetics, life expectancy, mental health, your children etc.
What have you accepted as fact, without examining the truth of God’s Word?
Make a choice to get rid of any “stinking thinking” and to live a full abundant life.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. (John 10:10)
Prayer: Lord I thank you for the power to change my future with the power of your word, and it’s truth being activated in every cell and molecule of my heart, mind and body. I reject the lies of the enemy and the fear of death, and choose to renew my mind in accordance with your word. In Jesus Name. Amen.
