11 January - Power- Packed Words

Our words are like power-packed capsules that have the potential to move mountains, tear down strongholds, build hopes and dreams and release encouragement.

We can use our words to build up, encourage, love and bring wisdom and grace, or we can tear down, destroy, and spout absolute rubbish.

Essentially our words are like toothpaste, which has been squeezed out. Once the toothpaste is out, you can't put it back; the same is true of our words. We can't put the words we've just spoken back in our mouths any more than we can squeeze toothpaste back into a tube.

The Bible says that out of the mouth, the heart speaks, so when we want to watch our words and speak good ones, we need to deal with our hearts, forgive quickly, keep out of the way of offence, and fill our hearts with those things that are good, true, praiseworthy, and worth thinking about.

What we allow into our hearts and think about is what we say.

"A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart." (Luke 6:45)

A helpful little acronym to help us be more constructive and loving with our words is to "THINK" before you speak:

T – Is it True?

H – is it Helpful?

I – is it Inspiring?

N- is it Necessary?

K – is it Kind?

Even when things don't go quite to plan, people are annoying you or your circumstances are not what they should be; God still has a way through and expects us to control our tongues and the words we choose to speak.

If you listen and allow Him to bring revelation and wisdom, He will guide you out of every predicament. One of the main ways He does this is by releasing a vision or picture of our future or renewing and clarifying an old one. He redirects our focus not upon our current situation but on the future and gives us something to look towards so we can frame our future with our words and beliefs.

God encourages us to "renew our minds with His promises and plans, and then to start speaking our future rather than focusing and talking about our present circumstances and problems". (Romans 12:2)

Today let your words be ones that speak of and expect good things to come to pass as you frame what God is says. And remember to think before you speak as you seek to make your words declare your future hopes, dreams and goals and be ones that people would want to hear and repeat. (Ephesians 4:29)

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope".(Jeremiah 29:11)

"Until now, you have asked for nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full". (John 16:24)

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what helps build others up" (Ephesians 4:29)

Prayer: Lord, I agree with you and your Word today as I focus on what you say and your promises rather than any negatives in my present circumstances. Please help me understand the power of my words and remind me to guard my heart, for out of my heart, my mouth speaks. "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord." (Psalm 19:14). In Jesus' Name Amen
