12 June – Combat Worry

don't worry

How much time do we spend worrying over our life, future and things we can do little about now? We can worry about our finances, career, health, our choices and whether they are the correct ones, our family, children, the government, the world and anything else we can think of.

Yet worrying about tomorrow can become a dangerous use of our mental, emotional and spiritual energy because we weren’t created to worry. Its detrimental to our relationships, sense of humour, health, causes toxicity in our brains and saps our faith to believe God and what He says about our life.

Jesus advises us not to worry and especially to not worry about tomorrow, for today has enough things to keep us busy. Instead of worrying He says to get in the habit, and cultivate the attitude of trusting.  (Matthew 6) Trusting that He is good, that He has our future in His very capable hands, that He loves our families and the people in our lives even more than we do and that He will work out every circumstance for good for those who love and follow Him.

It’s so powerful when we choose to get quiet, to pray and to follow Jesus’ lead on how to handle our circumstances rather than falling into the trap of worrying.

I’ve learnt one of the best ways to combat worry is by beginning my day entrusting everything into God’s hands and getting heavens perspective and plan regarding my relationships, finances, dreams, goals and the concerns of the day. As we learn to consistently allow the Holy Spirit to direct and lead us, the easier it is to trust God and not to worry.

Make a decision to start your day giving all your concerns to God as you sit in His presence, read and listen to His Word and get His perspective and wisdom on what is happening in your life. Then focus on the good things of the day ahead of you, remembering to quickly hand over any worries as they come up.

God knows everything that is going on around us and the end from the beginning already. He promises He will perfect that which concerns us, work all things together for our good and make a way for us. When we choose to trust Him to do those things we can start enjoying life more rather than spending our days worrying about what may happen next. (Psalm 138:8; Isaiah 43:16; Romans 8:28 )

Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:25-34)

“The God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through the pounding waves….Forget about what’s happened before; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it” (Isaiah 43:16 The Message)

Prayer: Lord please help me to cultivate and have an attitude of trusting you with my life and to have heavens perspective about my circumstances. Thank you that you are taking care of me today.  In Jesus name Amen
