The definition of Control is “The power to influence or direct people’s behaviour or the course of events”.
The opposite of control is “Independence” which is self government, self rule, self determination, or freedom,
Many would say it’s been free from constraints, being able to do whatever you please, that there is no absolutes, that we self determine our lives. That we rule.
Some would like to think that we determine our behaviour and that there are no other forces at work.
But we live with another dimension, surrounded by forces of good and evil.
This spiritual dimension has its basis either in good, or evil. The basis of the evil forces is to control us, to enslave us really.
That our lives would be controlled and devastated by evil, loss, sickness, abuse, and every other evil work.
That is the dimension, which has control over people unless they reach out and grab the hand of Jesus and let him bring them into the light.
Jesus himself said “I have come to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8)
Michelangelo perhaps grasped this thought when he painted the Sistine chapel depicting God reaching out to give life to Adam.
An amazing revelation that God is love in the midst of a world that only understood God as a harsh judge and lived in fear.
God created mankind free, and He made us to govern and have dominion and authority.
But mankind lost that power through lack of trust and questioning God’s goodness.
The devil through deceiving and enslaving Adam and Eve stole our inheritance.
But Jesus got it back for us. He dealt with the Sin issue and gained freedom dominion and authority for us once more. “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross“. (Colossians 2:15)
Goodness of God
The point to grab hold of is that unless we trust and rely on God’s goodness and love towards us we will remain walking and living in bondage. We can only walk in that freedom that is ours if we let go of distrust and self-government, which causes us to question whether God is holding out on us?
“The Lord is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psalm 81:11)
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow or turning.” James 1:17
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba Father” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” Romans 8:13-16
God is a loving, generous Father. He doesn’t disappoint, He doesn’t deal harshly us, or abuse us.
He wants us to trust Him
He wants us to follow His lead.
Follow Him today and give Him the controls. He can see up ahead, and will lead you through.
Prayer: Lord thank you that you are good. Help me to trust in who you are and that no matter what I am going through you will make a way through for me. I give you the controls. In Jesus Name Amen.
