14 Sept – Head winds

headwinds

Today while out for my run I struck a head wind. It was strong enough that I needed to lean into it to keep going. I don’t particularly enjoy facing a head wind because it makes everything harder and increases the output of energy needed to get to where you are going considerably. However running into a head wind does have it’s benefits and life lessons for when we choose to not give up because it’s too hard. When we instead choose to lean in and keep going we will eventually turn a corner and no longer face the wind. Often instead that same wind becomes a tail wind, which pushes and almost propels us forward to our destination.

The same can be said for our life and those seasons when we are facing a struggle or pressure, resembling a “headwind”. Sometimes the “head wind” of circumstances is so strong we can feel overpowered. But those winds I have discovered are the ones I’ve learnt to lean in on Jesus for. It’s those head winds which have helped me to understand that “when I am weak He is strong in me”, and that as I long as I keep moving in a forward direction I will be okay.

But he answered me, “My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-11)

If, as on my run I refuse to give in to the “head wind,”  then the very things which previously pressured and even appeared as disappointments or a heartache will end up being, (once we turn “the corner) that which propels us forward, just like a “tail wind”. That disappointment, broken heart, failed relationship, financial difficulty or battle with sickness or loss – all these are like a head wind, but when we overcome them we are so much stronger, wiser and able to stand on our last victory over them to go higher and further in life.

Today if you are facing a “head wind” I encourage you to keep going. Don’t give up, but lean in on Jesus and receive His strength, knowing that the very thing which you feel pressured or discouraged about now will more than likely be that which God uses and works in you to propel you forward into your destiny.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)

“Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all, for God has made us to be more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything! So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles,[c] fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love. There is no power above us or beneath us—no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance us from God’s passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One!” (Romans 8:37-39 TPT)

Prayer:Lord thankyou that you make everything work out for my good and that many times the things which causes me trouble will be the very things which, when I stick with you, will cause me to triumph and overcome. Help me today to remember that when I face “head winds” to lean into you and to keep moving forward until I “turn that corner”. In Jesus name Amen.
