When I was younger, I surmised that "success was finding out what God wants you to do and then doing it".
However, as the years have passed, I've discovered that finding out what God wants you to do and then doing it can look quite different from what you may expect. The process is usually longer, the twists and turns in the journey far greater, and the outcomes vary.
Therefore, I've expanded my thoughts on success and concluded (at this point) that:
Success is finding out what and whom God wants you to be and doing and being faithful every day to what He has asked, regardless of results or how long it takes.
Life with God is a long-distance run, not a short sprint and some things are out of our control, and some aren't our responsibility.
Faithfulness, a pure heart, love, and obedience to God and His purposes for your life are what real success looks like, rather than judging what you can produce or how quickly you achieve.
God looks at the purity of your heart and motives. At whom He has made you to be and whether you choose to be thankful and make the most of what He has blessed you. He sees your faithfulness and love for Him and others and that being outworked in your life.
Today I encourage you to focus on being faithful and diligent with what you have in your heart and hand. Cultivate a genuine heart and motives as you grow in faith and obedience to God and what he has entrusted you with. And if you don't know what it is, take some time to search out His Word and guidance and what He has already placed in your heart so you can find out.
Seek and prioritise God; he'll make everything else fall into place!
"For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess." (Duet 30:16)
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart." (Proverbs 3:3)
"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master." (Matthew 25:23)
Prayer: Lord, please help me to trust you more with my life and its outcomes, and that I would seek you, your heart and cultivate a life of faithfulness and integrity before you. In Jesus' name Amen
