17 Jan – God speaks

God does speak. He speaks through His word in the bible. He speaks in our circumstances and surroundings. He speaks through other people, through visions, dreams, angelic visitations, an inner knowing, a repeated thought, and a quiet steady voice within us. He speaks in signs and wonders and in any other way He sees fit to get the message across to us.

Therefore because God does actually speak to us there are times when it pays to look back at some of the last things we were confident we felt God was saying to us. It reminds us of what God has said and ensures we don’t get off track, stressed about things that are of no real consequence, and that we remain focused on our call and purpose in life, and who and what is really important.

I find it helpful to write down everyday what I am saying to God and then to wait and listen for what he says back. It may be a bible verse that “jumps’ out at me, a dream I have had in the night, a vision or just a repeated thought and inner witness that I have grown to know as God’s voice speaking to me. I write what I feel God is saying down and check it against what the Bible says because God won’t disagree or contradict His word and then I act upon that guidance as needed.

Jesus expects that we will hear and follow His voice. He described himself as our good shepherd and we as His sheep. He said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).

Today I encourage you to seek to hear God’s voice in whatever form that may happen fresh everyday. If you aren’t sure it’s God speaking check it against the principles in His Word. Write it down, wait, pray, talk to someone you know hears from God if you need to, and then do what you feel He is saying. He is speaking to lead, comfort, and guide us so let’s listen to what He says today.

Prayer: Lord thankyou that you are a God who speaks to me today. Help me to learn to wait, listen and to recognise your voice. In Jesus name Amen.
