17 July - Do Whatever It Takes

"I want to see what happens if I don't give up. For one day I will thank myself that I held on to my dreams."

There is an account of a paralysed man who had four friends who agreed to take him to where Jesus was to be holding a meeting so that their friend would have the opportunity to speak with Jesus and hopefully be healed so that he could walk again.

However, on arrival the meeting place was full and there were so many people the house was overflowing so that there was no longer any room for them to enter the house.

They tried to squeeze through the door to no avail so they attempted to climb through the windows, but there was no room to get in through them either.

Not to be deterred in their efforts to reach Jesus, the four friends decided that they would climb up on the roof, remove the tiles and lower their paralysed friend down right into the centre of the room where Jesus was speaking. (Luke 5:17-39 NIV)

It was a bold move, but it worked, and their faith and efforts were rewarded as the paralysed man was healed instantly as Jesus spoke to him.

Much like the paralysed man, there are times in life when we are believing and working toward seeing something come to pass in our life. We hear or read about it happening in other people’s lives, we have a desire in our hearts, and we know Jesus can make anything happen.

However, like the paralysed man in the story, we can find ourselves locked out, and there seems there is no way forward. We knock on doors to no avail, try another route only to find that way blocked too, and we are left wondering what to do next.

When you find yourself in this predicament and you know Jesus is leading you and it feels like it is Him that has placed the desire and dream in your heart, like the paralysed man and his four friends, choose not to give up, because you will thank yourself one day that you held on.

Keep knocking, seeking, and praying for wisdom as to what to do. If one way doesn’t work, but you know Jesus is leading you, then look for another way.

Plus, choose to have friends like the man who was healed, who did what they could to help their mate. Find people who will cheer you on, be there to offer a helping hand, and are determined to assist you in whatever way they can to help you break through too.

Today I encourage you; be bold and courageous and determine to do whatever it takes. If the door is locked, try the window, and if the window is closed, climb on the roof!

"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." (Isaiah 43:19)

'When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.' (Isaiah 43:2)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you make all things possible. Please guide me and when it seems like the way is blocked would you show me which way to go. I know you are the God who opens closed doors and makes a way where there seems there is no way, so please do that for me today. In Jesus' name Amen.
