2 June – Don’t give up!

I have discovered something about not giving up. I think we can always manage far more than we think. It’s in the press, when we feel like quitting that we often find a strength we didn’t know we had.

I have also learnt that on my morning run when I’m pushing myself to reach my next goal. When I don’t think I can run any further I choose to not quit yet, and dig deeper. I have a goal, a vision and I don’t want to give up on it. When I dig deeper I always discover a reserve I didn’t at first know was there. I have surprised myself with how far I can push myself, and consequently achieve.

There are a lot of similarities between running and life in general. We all benefit from having a vision, something to press forward for when the going get’s tough, something that inspires us to not give up, something bigger than the immediate before us. There are moments in life where we have to choose whether to keep going, to press in, or give up. What’s more when we feel like we have “run out”and come to the end of ourselves, God promises He will be there for us. It may not always work out as we envisaged, but the main point is to not give up; sometimes we just need to try a new tact. When we feel our weakest, that’s when we discover how strong we can be in Him.

God says to us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

God knows what we are going through, what we are believing and praying for, and how much we can take. He says, “Don’t give up, don’t become weary“.He knows the end from the beginning and everything in between. He knows that the journey with all its high’s and low’s, are part of us becoming who we are made to be. Jesus said we would face trials, but He also promised He has overcome them.

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Strangely even with a knowledge and relationship with Jesus we can still keep living independently from Him. Why we do that when we have so much strength, wisdom and ability available to us? Perhaps our pride and “I can do this myself” kicks in far too often, plus the reality of how much do we actually trust God? In the press, when the going is tough is when we truely discover what we really believe.

Sometimes we may simply need to go back to basics, and strengthen ourselves in God, and who we are in Him. When I’m struggling and feeling like I am “taking a hit”, I have learnt the wisest thing to do is go back to the basics of what really matters, and my relationship with Jesus. From that place I strengthen up my foundations, rebuild if necessary and determine to keep going.

Today what situation are you ready to give up?

Be encouraged, God is with you in the press. Take time prospering and renewing your spirit so that you have the strength to persevere in this situation? Dig deep and keep standing. Maybe you need to get back to the basics and once again renew yourself in God’s strength and wisdom, and inquire what to do next, enabling you to keep standing and not give up.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”. (Joshua 1:9)

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 11:5)

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand”. (Ephesians 6:13)

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Luke 11:9-13)

Prayer: Lord give me strength in difficulties and when I feel like giving up. Help me to dig deeper into you. Thank you that I can do all things, because you give me strength. In Jesus name Amen.
