2 Oct – Being flexible

I’m all for setting goals and knowing where I’m going and what to focus on. Vision and focus are important and God talks about running our race, and making the vision clear so that we might run with it. (Habbakkuk 2:2) However in all our goal  setting and vision casting it is very easy to become to smart for our own good. With God’s help we begin to see the future and where we are headed, so we get busy making a strategy and start running; but then we often make an error. We forget to check in with God regularly, and/or allow Him to lead the way. Why? Because we think and persume that we know best all the time and we get inflexible.

Inflexibility makes it difficult for God to lead us. Instead we can be rigid, controlling, lacking in spontaneity, a slave to our packed schedules and goal setting, and even fearful. Inflexibility at its worst makes us and our lives boring.

God however wants us to learn how to be flexible. To flow along with Him and what He is doing. That doesn’t mean we don’t achieve or get anything done, nor is it an excuse to be “flakey”; it just means we are happy to go, be, do and rest in whatever God is doing in our day and future’s. It means making plans with God to the best of our understanding, but also being open for Him to lead us and to shift or change where and what we are doing at a moments notice. Why? Because we see through our perspective and knowedge of a situation, but He sees everything! God wants to be able to easily lead and guide us to places of blessing, divine appointments He’s been setting up for us to be involved in, and away from sudden danger or attacks from the enemy. The question is, “Will we follow and let Him lead, or will we be independent, dull of hearing, and inflexible?”

Today, make your plans, but don’t make them too inflexible and scheduled to the limit. Leave room for spontaneity, fun, and for those  “God set-ups”, because they really are alot of fun, and awesome things happen when we learn to go along with the flow of what God is doing right now. Pray and ask God to teach you how to be more flexible as you trust Him to lead you into all that He has been working on and planning for you today.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check otherwise they will not come near to you”. (Psalm 32:8-9)

Prayer: Lord than you that you promise to lead and guide me everyday. Help me to be more flexible and trusting so that I am willing and ready at a moments notice to change or alter my plans to follow your lead. You take the lead Jesus, and I”ll follow. In Jesus name Amen
