It’s amazing how much we are capable of when we try. I have the tendency to think that someone else will do things better than me. However I’ve discovered that if I put the talents, knowledge and abilities that God has gifted me with to use I can achieve equal to, if not better those I was feeling intimidated by in the first place.
That’s not being proud. That’s realising that we can all achieve far more than we usually give ourselves credit for. A few months ago we were involved in a business with some aspects of the work being things I had never done before. After the initial very sharp learning curve I was amazed at how much I was capable of; as well as the help God will give us if you ask, both in others and within ourselves.
I would begin my day speaking “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me? (Philippians 4:13), and call on angelic help to assist me. (Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14). Some days it seemed daunting, but I learnt I can manage and do far more than I even expected.
The thing about God is that He didn’t create us to achieve or have a breakthrough in just one area and then expect us to stop there. He made us to go from “faith to faith”, ever increasing in our capacity and confidence.
So now my latest challenge is “horsemanship”, well actually that’s my youngest son Isaac’s task. Mine is to catch the horse, put a halter on it, avoid the massive mud puddles, and being dragged along, as said mentioned horse heads for some grass she has spotted. Then we groom her, saddle up, put the bridle on, and get ready for Isaac to ride. This all has to be done in reverse order at the end of his lesson and ride.
My initial thought was, “God, what have you got me doing now? But I know enough about God to know He’s “working on something”, so I had better listen up and act, because what He is working on is on its way.
We love Isaac, and he’s praying, and believing for his own horse. That’s his dream, and because it’s his dream, our job is to do all we can to be ready, and to have Isaac ready. He’s going to have his own horse!
When we pray and believe for God to answer we need to “position” ourselves for Him to do exactly that, to answer! Therefore there is no point having a horse if you don’t know how to ride and look after one. Likewise there’s no point praying for an overseas holiday when you don’t have a passport, a car when you can’t drive, new friends when you never make the effort to go out and talk to people, or a baby when you don’t make time to be with your partner…(well, you get the picture).
God created us with limitless resources; because He has limitless resources, and we are designed to live in connection with Him. His abilities and resources become our abilities and resources. Where we may run out, He comes in. When we feel weak, He is strong; where we are fearful, He is courage itself; where we lack wisdom or understanding, He possesses all the answers.
Which means we can do far more than we might at first think, dream or imagine. He takes us higher and further than we could ever do just in our ability or strength. He has awesome plans for us, and loves to surprise us with just how much we can do in Him, if we will only follow His lead, obey His promptings and get out there and live it.
God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:10)
“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20 Amplified version)
Today, do just that! Get out there and live. You might just be surprised at how much you can do, be and achieve. The world is an awe inspiring place, full of great blessing and joy if we would only walk with Jesus through it. He has good things in store for us, and with Him nothing is impossible.
“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:6)
“In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that with you nothing is impossible. That I can do all things when you are the one who strengthens me. I don’t have to just rely on my own resources, because I have all the resources of heaven available to me. I have power, wisdom, understanding, strength, and peace and joy when I look to you. I am not alone in this. Help me to remember that today Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
