21 Oct – Directing Your Steps

Sometimes we can be very busy and efficient organising our schedule yet things still don’t seem to fall into place or how we wanted our day or week to pan out. This depending on our personality and scheduling tendencies can be really frustrating and cause us to become stressed if we are not careful.

As a result we can end up never wanting to make plans for fear of disappointment or have difficulty because other people never want to commit to us in case something or someone better comes along. Other people perhaps don’t plan because they’ve never bothered to have a schedule, plan or any direction in their week.

I’ve learnt over the years however that even though we can make our plans, book up our schedules and think we know exactly where and what we should be doing, that stuff happens. People cancel or let us down, situations come up that need our attention and sometimes even when we have done all we can do to plan out and try to cause things to flow smoothly, it still doesn’t happen.

That’s when I hear God quietly saying, “You make your plans, but I direct your steps.” Really some things and other peoples actions are totally out of our control or influence. People have their issues and own lives and sometimes that means they are not going to walk exactly in step with our plans or even God’s. Plus situations happen which are designed to side track and interrupt our day. That’s when it’s important to remember that God is bigger than any person, situation or thing and if we continually keep in mind that even though we can make our plans it is God that directs and guides our steps. With this in mind we can then learn to rest knowing that everything will work out for our good in the end. As the saying goes..”if it’s not good yet then God isn’t done yet.”

Today I encourage you to choose to rest instead of allowing yourself to get frustrated or stressed when things don’t go exactly to plan. Give it over to Jesus and let Him sort your schedule, plans and the bring the  desires of your heart to pass. He knows what is coming up, who is in your future and how to navigate and position you exactly where you need to be…He is the “set up” King and is intentional in all He does in our lives. Trust him to direct your steps and allow Him to have permission to override or reconfigure your plans when necessary to cause His best plan for you to come to pass.

“Go ahead and make all the plans you want, but it’s the Lord who will ultimately direct your steps. We are all in love with our own opinions, convinced they’re correct. But the Lord is in the midst of us, testing and probing our every motive. Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed. The Lord works everything together to accomplish his purpose.” (Proverbs 16:1-4 TPT)

“A person plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

Prayer: Lord please help me to remember that in the midst of planning and scheduling my day that you want the very best for me and always have a plan too. Today I trust you to guide me even if that means altering my plans. I trust that you always work all things together for my good, so thank you for directing my steps and taking care of everything  today. In Jesus name Amen.
