22 May – Expecting God’s Goodness And Favour

For a long time, I have had the attitude of, “What’s the worst thing that can happen, because if I can deal with that, I will be okay.” That mindset has got me through to this point in life, but lately, God has been challenging me and revealing that He wants me to expect good things because His goodness and favour are what He has for me, and I can rely on it.

“For surely His goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

When we base our decisions, reactions, expectations and dreams on the simple truths that Gods goodness and mercy are our’s and that He works all things for our good, it changes everything.

Why? Because we don’t need to worry, stress or wonder if everything will work out. We may face decisions, struggles, and uncertainty, yet when we base our responses and believe in God, who is good, perfect, and does not change, we can relax and live our lives from a place of peace and confidence.

William Carey, a lifelong missionary to India, once said, “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” His confidence was in God’s ability rather than in fear and limitations.

If we keep looking for problems, we’ll find them, but God wants us to look beyond the challenges in our lives to Him, knowing that He works everything for our good and to build an expectation of His goodness and mercy following us all the days of our life, rather than preparing for the worst.

God knows everything and nothing is a surprise to Him. He declares, “I know the plans I have for you. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

He wants us to put aside our fears and expect great things from Him as we speak and pray words of faith. It’s that sort of powerful, confident expectation that moves both heaven and earth. “For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” (1 Corinthians 5:11)

Whether it’s adversity, conflict, viruses, global strife, pandemics, whatever the problem or pressure is we may be facing, it does not need to lead us into panic or fear.

One look at His Word says that He will be there for us every morning and throughout our entire day and night; that He won’t ever leave or neglect us, and that we are always on His heart and mind. He is an everpresent help and strength to us if we’d only let Him.

This week expect His goodness and favour in your life. If you find yourself troubled, worrying, or know you have to take a step forward but you are unsure, then base your trust, actions and responses in these truths.

  1. GOD IS GOOD!  “He’s so much better than you think!”

  2. You will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

  3. That God is faithful to perform what He has promised.

  4. God will work ALL things together for your good.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you that you are already working goodness and favour into every circumstance of my life. Please help me today trust and base my life and expectations in your goodness and remember that you are always working ALL things together for my good. In Jesus name Amen.
