23 Jan -Living in the moment

A child has 940 Saturdays between birth and finishing high school.

940 Saturday’s may sound like a lot, but if you have or know a 5 year old, 260 Saturdays have gone already in their life.

Instead of feeling awful about what’s been lost, or how many Saturdays you can’t even remember having, why not focus on turning those moments you still have into memorable moments.

It’s so easy to go into automatic pilot with our lives, especially when you have kids, are busy studying, or are working crazy hours at your job. If our minds are elsewhere during all those moments we share with others then we’ve lost them.

Focus on the Moment

Instead try to stay in the moment. Focus on seeing those around you, hearing them, understanding them.

We do need to continually remind ourselves that everyday is a gift from God, and not to live our day in a negative, and distracted state of mind.

God’s word encourages us to; “Look carefully how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). Making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”. (Ephesians 5:15-17 amplified)

Living in the moment engages us with God; we are focused on Him and what He is doing. In our world there is so many distractions and it’s easy to miss what God is doing right in front of us.

Instead really open your eyes and see. Open your ears and hear. If you are with your children, your friends, and those significant people in your life, then BE with them. Laugh with them, cry with them, listen to them, play with them, and pray for them. Lock eyes with those you are with,  and BE with them. Turn your mind and heart to what God is doing right in front of you, and in the lives of those around you. Stop yourself from thinking on 100 other things, running ahead to other issues, problems, and people.

If you value living in the moment, you will live in the moment.

Technology was made for man, not man for technology. Sometimes we just need to turn off our phone, shut down the computer, turn off the television, and most importantly, discipline our minds to be present. We can start to practice listening well and honoring others with our purposeful presence.

Our undivided attention in the moment says you love and care. You have this one moment and then it is gone forever. So be engaged today and be with the ones you love; with those God brings across your path today.

Live in the moment, and trust God with all the things that so often scream for our attention and time. Give your life to those things that are important and not the things that seem urgent.

Today, practice living in the moment. Seize the moment with Jesus; don’t push him to the bottom of the list of who is important. Seize the moment with those you love, and seize the moment for your self, taking time to embrace the day and  enjoy all the wonderful things in it.

Prayer: Lord help me to embrace the day and to take some time with you; to make moments with those I love,  and to understand what and who is really important. Help me not to miss those people and experiences that are right in front of me simply because I get too distracted and weighed down with things that don’t really matter. In Jesus Name Amen.
