My family have a laugh at me regularly, as I have a little habit of saying “I remember”.
I remember lots of things.. important events, people’s faces and names, experiences and places I’ve been.I remember learning I was expecting each one of our children, their births, milestones and special moments that I treasure with them. I remember the first time I saw my husband and the moment he said I love you for the first time. I remember times when God has spoken to me or revealed something more of Himself. I remember visions and dreams and encounters with Him.
I think it’s important to remember milestones and important details in our lives. Life is made up of moments and there are moments that are worth remembering. Life goes by so fast, sometimes we need to mentally and emotionally pause and take a mental snap shot so we can store them away so we can remember.
The bible is full of remembrances. Of when and where God would show up on the scene and deliver or reveal Himself to people. They would then build something, or leave a marker or memorial to remind themselves and their descendants every time they passed that spot of what God had done for them. (Joshua 4:4-7)
Easter is one of those markers for the world and for those who follow Jesus. It is a marker in our lives every year to remember what Jesus has done for us. That He loves us so much that He sacrificed His life so that we might be free from the power and consequences of sin, and a fallen world. It’s a marker for us to remember that the power of the devil is broken in our lives, that we are not alone, that we have nothing to fear for we have a home and passport to heaven.
“For the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil”. (1 John 3:8)
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17)
This Easter take some time to remember. In the busyness of family gatherings, picnics, public holidays and chocolate overload , take some time out to remember Him. He is the reason for the season, He is the reason we remember and celebrate. He died, He conquered sin and death and triumphed over the devil, delivering us and setting us free. Because of Jesus we can have full overflowing abundant life free from guilt and shame. (John 10:10) That’s something worth remembering.
This Easter why not tell someone about this important marker in the calendar, and what Jesus means to you. If you don’t know Jesus find a church or someone who knows Him and find out who and what Easter is all about.
