24 Jan - You've Just Got To Float

I was chatting to a friend today, and they were saying how they were feeling frustrated, and a little like everything wasn’t going great. As I got off the phone, I remembered a conversation I’d had a while ago with our youngest son Isaac. He’d sat down beside me and, being his encouraging little self, had started telling me to keep believing, to remain positive and that everything would be alright.

I told him thank you and said, “I know Zac, I’m just trying to keep my head above the water right now”. He replied, “Mum, that’s okay; you’ve just got to float.

Isaacs simple words, "You've just got to float", couldn't be more true, especially when we are facing situations that make us feel like we are at risk of "drowning."

Compared to madly paddling or treading water to stay above the waves and situations we face in life, learning to float is a great answer to keeping our peace and holding onto our hopes, goals and dreams.

Jesus encouraged us that if we are feeling overwhelmed or just want to know how to live less burdened lives to come to him.

He said, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me, and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me, and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. (Matthew 11:28-30)

Today in the words of Isaac, “Just float”… “then you won’t have to spend your day struggling or constantly trying to keep your head above water. Come to Jesus, give your burdens over to him, ask for wisdom as to how to do what you need to do, and then lean back and float. Jesus will direct the current where it needs to carry you and lead you in the way to go. His way is light and easy.

‘The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)

Prayer: Lord, please help me remember that I don’t need to fight to keep my head above water when I can lean back and trust you to carry me where I need to go and do what I need to do. All I need do is trust you and to float. Please help me to do that today. In Jesus name Amen.
