Our kids have a “come back” line that they often use on my husband and I, which if we are not careful can leave us in a predicament. I’ve learnt that our children do actually listen to what we say, and they will waste no time in reminding us of what we have said if we don’t follow through. Their favourite line in case we get busy or forget something is “But you said!” And indeed we usually have said; and if we want them to believe our word we have no option but to back up our words by actions.
Today I opened up a book I have beside my bed and a little piece of paper slipped out. It had been put there by one of our children, and on it were a drawing and two little words. This time it wasn’t, “Mum, you said!” It was instead a prayer request and the words, “God said!”
It made me stop and ponder, “what indeed has God said?”
From the very beginning God has said some things! He said when He created the universe out of a dark void, and He said it was good.
“The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.(Genesis 1:3)
He “said” when He created mankind, and He “said” when He blessed them and “said” “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
He “said” when He declared that, “he knows the plans He has for us, that, “they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11)
He “said”, “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.They will soar high on wings like eagles.They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31)
He “said”, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn fromme, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
He “said”. “That He will supply all our needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:19)
And He “said”, “that nothing can ever separate us from His love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from His love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39)
He “said”, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
God has said many things, and His great and precious promises He has declared so that we can know He is dependable. He is not a man that He should lie, or go back on His word. What He has said He means 100%. (2 Peter 1:4)
Today no matter what you may be facing, know that God has said some things to you. He has promised and declared some truths over your life and your future. If you take hold of His invitation to walk with Him, and trust and listen intently to what He has said in His Word, He will guide you through your life both now and forever. What He has said, and promised you, He has the power to accomplish, otherwise He wouldn’t have said it in the first place.
Just as our kids remind us of what we have said, I encourage you to remind yourself of what God has said.God is listening when we remind Him of them, and the angels are ready to act when they hear these promises, so it’s more than okay to remind God as one of His children of what, He has “said.”
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;It will not return to Me empty, Withoutaccomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sentit.” (Isaiah 55:11)
“Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word!” (Psalm 103:20)
Prayer: Lord I’m reminding you today of what you have said. Thank you for your promises that I can depend on, and please help me to relax and rest in what you have said today. In Jesus name Amen.
