24 Oct – Set Your Course

set the course.jpg

Today on my run I was reminded of how important it is to set our course and to just keep running. Because when we do we will eventually establish our rhythm and when we find our rhythm it means we can far better run a lot longer and further.

I think life is generally like that.  If we set our course and just keep moving forward we will discover our pace and rhythm and be able to run our race in life more consistently, healthily and with more joy in the journey.

As I ran kilometre after kilometre on my run today I knew I had found my rhythm. I forgot about any tiredness, my sore legs from yesterday’s exercise or what and who was around me and I focused on the course I’d set and just kept running. I’d found my running groove and I stayed there. Setting my course meant I didn’t have to wonder where I was going or how far I would run. I’d decided that before I started and determined that I would not look to the left or the right, to the people driving past, the neighbours walking their dogs, the kids going to school on their bikes or the noise around me. No I kept focused and stayed my course. I kept running even when I was tempted to turn onto my street towards home early because my course was set, my focus firm and my rhythm in place.

Today I encourage you to spend some time with Jesus and determine what your course is to be so that you can then start moving forward in that direction. Then no matter what happens around you, what family or work drama’s there may be or how tired or hesitant you can feel at times, you will know where to look and which direction to take. With Jesus running alongside you – a bit like your running coach you will be able to last the distance, win the prize and finish victoriously.

And remember that on those days where your muscles ache, your heart may have been beaten about and you’re wondering if you have the strength, know that you are not alone. Jesus is right there alongside you and will strengthen and help you to keep going.

Set your course today, keep your focus and determine to find your rhythm as you keep moving forward into all that God has for you.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us”.(Hebrews 12:1)

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”(Isaiah 40:31)

Prayer: Lord thank you that with you I can do all things because you give me strength. Please help me to set my course, remain focused and to run my race well today. In Jesus name Amen.
