It’s the end of January already and the New Year is well under way.
Jesus said something, which always catches my attention and imagination. He said, “I have come to give you fullness and abundant life” (John 10:10)
The original language the New Testament was written is Greek. The Greek word translated “life” here is ZOE.
It’s a small word with a BIG meaning.
Simply put, Zoe means life. Not just life as we think of it (living or being alive), but the word Zoe means eternal life, never-ending life, and God’s life.
Everyone who is breathing has life in the sense of physical existence, but God wants more than just for us to be breathing.
Zoe is life as God has in Himself! The God kind of life!
John 1:4 says, “In Him (the word, Jesus) was life (Zoe!).”
1 John 5:11-12 says, “…God has given us eternal life (Zoe) and this life (Zoe) is in His Son (Jesus). He that has the Son (Jesus) has life (Zoe), and he that has not the Son of God (Jesus) has not life (Zoe).
God created us to have ZOE – life abundant, overflowing, His kind of life.
If you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have Zoe; God’s life inside of you. The same life that is in God is in you!
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. (John 14:23)
“Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? “(1 Corinthians 3:16)
He wants us to experience life as He intended it to be. Jesus came not only to save people from the torment of eternal hell but also to give us ZOE, or God-kind of life, in abundance.
But it’s our choice. LIFE has been deposited in our spirit.
We are not the same. We are a new creation. The old is passed away. (2 Cor 5:17)
But our souls, our thoughts, and emotions, and consequently our actions need that life constantly flowing into them. We are surrounded by the world’s way of doing and thinking and it’s definitely not Zoe – God’s idea of life.
We can however release this ZOE life within us and enjoy it now.
HOW?
The way we do that is to LET GO of our old way of doing and thinking that are contrary to Gods Word.
If you’re not sure what sort of life He says to live, pick up a Bible, and find out. The Bible holds the words of life. It’s a manual for abundant life. His words are foundation words, words to build your life on (Luke 6:46-49)
“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
As we step into another day, another month, God wants us to be able to run, to soar, to Live!
Jesus died to give it to us. That was part of the Joy that was set before him, that He was prepared to die on the Cross to give us something. He was giving us LIFE again.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
It is for Life (ZOE) that He went to the Cross
Starts choosing everyday, choosing today, to “LET GO” of the past, let go of your way of doing things.
Let God into every part of your being, your relationships, your thoughts, your speech, your actions, your home, workplace, everything!
He doesn’t want us to be half alive, and He doesn’t want a half relationship, when we feel like it relationship either, but if we only let God into some of our lives, that’s just what happens. God’s life can’t flow freely.
It’s like if you were given a brand new sports car, an immaculate, new, ready to drive and you never bothered to start the engine. You leave that new car sitting in the driveway, and instead keep driving your beaten up ancient rusty old car. How ridiculous you would be. Yet that’s what we do with our relationship with God. He has given us everything to have life abundant and we keep deciding to keep struggling along in the old.
Hebrews 12:1 says it this way, ”Let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings and entangles us, and let us run….
Looking away from all that will distract us to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith”.
Come on, throw the “old” off and take hold and receive God’s life. Why are you settling for anything less? Why are you still doing the same old things? Let it Go, and really LIVE!
“But one thing I do, forgetting those thing which are behind and reaching forward to those thing which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12-14)
Prayer: I want life today, God kind of life. I’m fed up with settling for less than what Jesus went through to give me. I want to let go of my way of doing things, to throw away the keys to the old and really start living. Help me to do that consistently from now on. In Jesus Name. Amen.
