A real change happens when we ask Jesus to be part of our life, but it's a continual process to reveal the transformation that has occurred inside of us in all areas of our life.
Jesus, however, promises He will be faithful to complete what He has started in us, but the change process is much like a fitness regime. You don't suddenly have fantastic abs overnight. They are "under there", but some changes must happen in our bodies for those "ab" muscles to be revealed. If we give up too soon on the process, the transformation will never be revealed as fully as it could in us.
The outworking of what Jesus has done for and in us and the change He has created on the inside of us comes from deepening our understanding and living out the changes that understanding creates in our hearts.
The good news is that God is faithful and committed to us. He knows that our consistent quality decisions and time spent with Him, over time, will make a difference in our lives as we walk out of our new life with Him.
Some steps you can take to help you move forward are to:
1. Pray about everything, and be determined to deal with and let go of any hurts from the past. If you have a belief or mindset that isn't based on truth or results from trauma or lies, you can change these by replacing your thoughts and beliefs with the truth of God's word and hope for the future. Listen for Jesus leading you so you can remain on the right track.
2. Write down where you would like to be in the future and assess the new opportunities you can see opening up. Writing down the vision and what you want helps you remain focused and will encourage you to keep going.
"Write down the vision; write it clearly on clay tablets so whoever reads it can run to tell others" (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
3. Assess where you can do something different. You may have to stop participating in certain pastimes and choose new ones, be prepared for some relationships to change, upskill in an area of your life, and do things differently as you allow God to work in you.
But be encouraged because your dreams and the future God has for you are on the other side of your next steps.
It will be worth it because Jesus has amazing plans for your life, which are always far greater than anything you could ever imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:19)
Prayer: Lord, I ask that you continue to work in me. I commit to growth and transformation in every area of my life as you direct and guide me. I ask you to bring change in the areas of my life that need change as you continue to work with me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
