26 November - The Power Of Surrender

Amazingly the most powerful tool against strongholds and hindrances in our lives to being able to move forward isn't asking ourselves to stop doing something. Instead of mobilising our will, a big key is to surrender your will instead.

Jesus shared how to live in a place of surrender and revealed how powerful it is. He taught that He could do nothing by himself but only what he saw the Father doing. "Whatever the Father does, the Son does also….because I carry out the will of the one who sent me not my own will." (John 5:19-20)

Jesus taught that if we want to experience victory, we begin and position ourselves daily in a place of surrender. He demonstrated this by his surrender in that wherever he went and whatever he did, he was firstly directed by His Father in heaven.

Ultimately this surrender meant giving His life, and as he struggled with what was before him in being crucified on a Cross, he prayed, "Not my will, Father, but yours be done". (Luke 22:42) In surrendering his life, he won the greatest victory known in the universe; he defeated the power and control of evil and its consequences over mankind.

Surrender, which can be seen as passivity and defeat, is the way to victory. We lose a life to gain a life – a life far better than the one we lost.

God has a plan for your life, and it is possible to become the person we long to be and who God says we really are. However, to do so requires moving out of the driver's seat, handing over the keys and allowing Jesus to take the wheel. It's essentially surrendering our way of doing things and seeking His.

Today I encourage you to let go and surrender. God's ways and thoughts are higher than yours, and He always has the best of plans. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Plus, the great part of living a surrendered life is that Jesus always has your best interests at heart and a plan for your life that will exceed anything you could ever think, pray, dream or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20; Jeremiah 29:11)

The more areas of your life you surrender to Him, the greater the room for God's goodness and power to fill your life, and the more you grow to resemble Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I encourage you to surrender your will to Jesus' plan and will for you today. It's not as someone who is fatalistic and defeated, but so that Jesus can take the wheel and connect and direct you to your best life. He wants to drive the best route possible and asks that you come ride with Him.

"Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." (Matthew 10:39)

"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." (Matthew 16:24)

"Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go." (Proverbs 3:5-6 TPT)

Prayer: Lord, I surrender the controls and ceaseless exerting of my will to make things happen or to do things my way. Please take my life and make it how you've always planned it to be, and help me to trust you more, knowing that you hold my life securely in your hands. In Jesus' name amen
