27 April – “Something gotta a hold of me”

“Something’s gotta hold of me. Oh it must be love!” Our second daughter has been singing that at the top of her lungs today. And yes in case you are wondering she is LOUD!  It got me thinking though that the something who does, and who I want to have a hold of me is Jesus, and He is love.

When you know Him sunshine switches on in the inside of you. We do not have the spirit of a quitter on the inside of us. The spirit of Jesus dwells within us. He is in us, and we are in Him, closer than the air we breath.

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

We no longer have to live in our own strength, our own knowledge or ability. The spirit of God dwells within us. We can do all things, we can know Him, and we can therefore become the people we were created to be.

The bible says “Therefore is anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17), so “don’t not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

God wants us to know we are, and who He is. Why? Because when we know who has taken hold of our life, who has rescued us, who loves us, we won’t be afraid or worried or have a care about the things of the world anymore. We will really know Him, and understand that all that matters is that He has a hold of us. Everything is, and will be more than alright!

Life with Jesus is not meant to be a colorless existence. He wants us to have fun, for us to enjoy, to embrace love and life in Him. To have fullness and abundance of life.

He knows everything we need, every bill that needs paid, every family drama, every demand on our time and energy, every concern, hope and dream. He knows it all, and He wants to be right in the center of it all. Because He loves you and He sees you.

His plan for our lives is far above what we could ever even hope or dream or even dare to imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

What holds God’s purpose and plan from coming to pass too often is us. We can hold things up because we struggle to understand and enter into all the goodness God has for us. Too often we are trapped in our wrong thinking about what God can do, and whether we are worthy, or we believe the lies whispered that God is a “Kill joy”.

Take some time to read His words in the bible and you will soon find out to the contrary. That lie couldn’t be further from the truth. God is love and He wants to lavish His love and blessings, His joy and fun, and exuberance for life all over us. He wants us to enjoy this life, to be free from toil and worry and strife. How often have we read in his word or heard him whisper “Don’t worry, don’t be afraid”, and yet we still do?

So today I say,  “Let’s get rid of some stinking thinking about who God is, and what it means to have Him in our life. He is waiting, He is calling, and what He has planned for you is all good. Let Him really take a hold of you, and you’ll soon find out.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)

Prayer: Lord I thank you for your love that surpasses anything the world has to offer. Forgive me where I have thought of you as something you are not. Forgive me where I have fallen into toiling and stressing, instead of living life as you made me to live it. Lift off the weights and the lies, and let me see that the “something that has a hold of me” is only meant to be you and your love. In Jesus Name Amen.
