27 Oct – How To Sow For The Best Harvest

Our youngest son Isaac has created his new veggie patch, making his own planter boxes and planting seeds. He is especially excited about his tomato seedling as it’s started to pop up from beneath the soil and is growing taller by the day.

What I love about growing things is that if you can get the conditions right it’s all so simple. You plant a seed,  take care of it, and then watch as that one tiny seed develops and keeps multiplying. For example, the number of seeds in one tomato typically ranges from 150 to 300 seeds per fruit. Plus, just one tomato plant can supply up to 200 tomatoes in a season. That’s a lot of tomatoes and a huge amount of seeds. Why can it increase and create such a harvest? Because it’s designed to – Sow a seed, reap a harvest.

Sowing seeds and reaping a harvest is a principle that works in every area of your life. The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, “For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.”

What you sow and allow to be planted in your life will produce a harvest. Depending on what you have planted, it will either be profitable and a blessing in your life or take up space and become toxic like a weed.

We might not like that truth, but it is the way God has designed the universe. As you sow, so shall you reap.

If you choose to sow those things that are profitable and a blessing, that’s what your life will produce. But if you consistently mix with cheats, liars, unkindness, selfishness, immorality and greed, those are the things you are sowing into your life and are what you will produce and consequently have your life full.

The fantastic part about sowing and reaping is that if you realise that some of the things produced in your life are not what you desire or are God’s best, He has a solution. Turn away from your way of doing things, seek Jesus for the best way forward, ask for his strength and power to help you, and start sowing what you want to produce and increase in your life.

As you change up what you are planting in your world ensure that what you are wanting to produce aligns with God’s truths and principles in the Bible.

Over time, just like Isaacs tomato plant, you will start to see new growth pop up from the dirt and begin to reap a harvest of increase, righteousness, peace and joy. “As a man sows, so shall he reap”. (Gal 6:7)

“Now he who supplies to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT)

“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:8)

Prayer: Lord, please give me the wisdom to choose wisely the things I plant and allow to grow and multiply in my life. Thank you that every day I get the opportunity to sow seeds for increase, peace and blessing and that as I do, I receive a harvest. In Jesus name Amen.
