28 Aug – Don’t Swallow The Bitter Pill

There is a saying, “it’s a bitter pill to swallow,” which means something unpleasant but that must be endured and accepted. Most of us know what it is to have to face difficult or uncomfortable situations or be told something we’d rather not hear. However, I wonder how often we “swallow” things we were never meant to “eat” of or that Jesus wants to carry for us so we don’t have to?

However, instead of casting our cares and worries upon Jesus, we “swallow the bitter pill” and find ourselves in a place of accepting or enduring life’s tough places rather than seeking to appropriate the truth of what Jesus has done for us?

Jesus doesn’t want us to have to carry or “swallow” the bitterness of life, because when we do we are partaking of that thing and it can become a part of us, when in fact, Jesus “swallowed” and did away with the weight of all our bitterness and pain already when He carried and died for our griefs, sorrow, sin, sickness and pain. (Isaiah 53:4)

The question then to regularly ask ourselves is what are we accepting or enduring? Is it pain, disappointment and bitterness like the bitter pill, or are we eating those things that are good, true, pure, lovely and worthy of shouting about?

Today don’t feel like you have to keep eating the hard things of life or that it is always necessary to endure and swallow a bitter pill. We were never created to live like that, and Jesus went through a lot on the Cross to ensure we didn’t have to live afflicted and beaten down by life.

He swallowed the “bitter pill” of a wooden cross so that we could live free, casting our cares upon Him and receiving in return His strength, comfort, peace, joy and fullness of life. Choose to “feast” on Jesus and His goodness and throw that bitter pill away.

Surely He has borne all our griefs and carried our sorrows….He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV)

Jesus said, “ I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect – life in Its fullness until you overflow.” (John 19:10 TPT)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you have already carried and bore every grief and sorrow I could ever face. You took the “bitter pills” so I wouldn’t have to. Today I’m choosing to “eat” of the life you have for me. In Jesus name amen
