28 June - Be The Best Version Of Yourself

It’s our eldest son Ben’s 20th birthday today and we were having a chat about him no longer being a teenager and what the next decade may hold for him.

Our twenties are such an amazing time in our life where we get to explore, grow, and develop our skills, education, career paths, relationships, and who we are becoming as people. It’s an important season in our lives as we also often find, or are on the path to finding our life partner and perhaps having or thinking about starting a family.

Today as I chatted to Ben we talked about the next decade in our lives, I encouraged him that this was an opportunity to build on the strong foundations he had already and to determine to set himself up for the next season of his life and continually seek to become the best version of himself.

An important key however to becoming the best version of ourselves is that we first must look honestly at ourselves and at both the obvious and hidden aspects of who we are.

Are we being the best person we can be? Are we working on improving ourselves and being honest about our own weaknesses and failings? Are we listening to God's guidance and following His way of doing things?

It’s called “Lifting the Lid” when we acknowledge that we have an area in our life that is going to require us to push through and overcome and thankfully Jesus will help us to do that as we seek Him and His way of doing things (Matthew 6:33)

Today I encourage you to ask Jesus to help you to be the best version of yourself. He thinks you are amazing and full of potential and gifts that the world needs and He promises that He will perfect all that concerns you and is faithful to finish what He has started in you. (Psalm 138:8; Philippians 1:6)

Don’t get down on yourself about any failings or shortcomings but make a plan and determine to change it up, be open to Jesus’ work in you and to deal with and grow to your greatest potential. Determine to make choices every day to examine your heart and attitudes for it’s in the DAILY choices we make that enact change and help us become all that God created us to be.

Life really is so precious and those around us are too important not to make an effort to lift the lid on our potential and ability to influence for good.

Today if you want the world to be a better place, your home to be full of peace and harmony, your relationships to be healthy, and to be successful at the things you put your hand to, then I encourage you to seek God and a revelation of how amazing and loved you are. Take an honest look in the mirror, see the person He says you are, and then walk out that best version of yourself.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

Prayer: Lord would you please show me where I have in my life so that I can make those daily choices that will bring change and help me walk out the best version of myself. Thank you that when I am weak you are strong and that nothing is impossible when I trust and lean on you. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus name Amen.
