Everyday is a gift and its so important to not allow ourselves to get in a distracted state of mind or heart instead of focusing on seeing and experiencing who and what is around us.
God’s word encourages us to; “Look carefully how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). Making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”.(Ephesians 5:15-17 amplified)
Living in the moment engages us with God; we are focused on Him and what He is doing and bringing across pur path. However there are also many others things crying out for our attention and we can easily miss what is right in front of us if we are not careful and focused.
When we look carefully at how we live and make the most of opportunities it involves opening our eyes to see,our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to perceive. When we are with our partner, children, family, friends or other significant people in our life, then we choose to really BE with them. To laugh with them, cry with them, listen to them, play with them, and pray for and with them.
Lock eyes with those you are with and BE with them. Turn your mind and heart to what God is doing right in front of you and in the lives of those around you. Stop yourself from thinking on 100 other things or becoming distracted on other issues, problems and people when you could be in the moment you are in right now.
Remember technology was made for man, not man for technology. Sometimes we just need to turn off our phone, shut down the computer, turn off the television, and most importantly, discipline our minds to be present. We can start to practice listening well and honoring others with our purposeful presence.
I encourage you to trust God with all the things that so often scream for your attention and time and then determine to give your life to those things that are important and not just the things that seem urgent.
Today practice living in the moment. Seize time with Jesus and don’t push him to the bottom of the list of who is important. Capture the moments with those you love and remember the importance of taking time for yourself to embrace the day and enjoy all the wonderful things in it. Live in the moment and make it worth remembering today.
Prayer: Lord help me to take some time with you today and to make moments with those I love. Please give me wisdom to understand what and who is really important. Help me not to miss those people and experiences that are right in front of me simply because I get too distracted and weighed down with things that don’t really matter. In Jesus Name Amen.
