How do you actually feel about yourself? Do you find it easy to see the negatives and the things you don’t like about yourself, rather than your good points?
For most of us, it doesn’t take much thought or effort to be able to list off the things we don’t particularly like about ourselves. We see our weaknesses, failings, disappointments and fears far more readily than the good.
I had a conversation with God this week. It started with Him asking me how I saw myself? It was a Monday, and I woke up feeling a little yucky, so when I heard this question from God I quickly found myself listing off a long list of negatives. How I don’t like how judgemental, fearful, anxious, and angry I can get. I could have gone on and on, until God gently stopped me and said these words.
“You need to do “Warm Fuzzies!”
Warm fuzzies? Now, some may understand warm fuzzies to mean, “the warm, pleasant sensations one feels in the stomach and heart area when emotionally moved by an act of goodwill or love.”
But a warm fuzzy is also the gift of giving someone a short note or verbal compliment about what you think makes them so awesome; it compliments them in some way, by highlighting their good points, or what you like about them.
Warm fuzzies are powerful feel good tools. They make people feel appreciated, loved, accepted and uplifted. They are special words of encouragement.
Imagine if we all did “warm fuzzies” on ourselves everyday. Where we wrote down what we like about our self; what we are good at; our most admirable points, and achievements?
How much better would we feel about our lives in general? We would no doubt begin to focus more on our admirable traits, and see ourselves in a “better light,” thus changing our whole outlook on our day and future? How would it alter how we relate to others?
We’d start to be able to see the good in others more easily. We would start to see the positives rather than the negatives all the time. We could even begin to give the gift of an encouraging word, and compliment to others. What a life changer those “warm fuzzies would, and could be!
God is the “King of Warm Fuzzies”. His word is actually full of them. When you start to read and study the bible looking for the warm fuzzier, you’ll find them everywhere. That He thinks we are great! That we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that we are royalty, adopted into His family, forgiven, accepted, loved, cherished, precious, strong, and wonder workers in God, for whom nothing is impossible. (Psalm 139:14 1 Peter 2:9; Ephesians 1:5; John 6:37; John 3:16; Matthew 10:31; Daniel 10:32; Mark 9:23; John 15)
The more you think about it, the better warm fuzzies look. Everyone needs the gift of encouragement, so why not love yourself today, and give yourself the gift of a warm fuzzy; then write down a warm fuzzy from Jesus to you. (You’ll find them in the bible). Then go out and have a spectacular day!
Prayer: Lord thank you that you love me so much. You think I am wonderful, unique, and worth dying for. Help me to give myself a “warm fuzzy” everyday, and to then bless someone else with the gift of an encouraging word too. In Jesus Name. Amen.
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well” (Psalm 139:14)
“I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ unto good works (Ephesians 2:10).
I am a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
