4 Feb – Know The Truth

Wisdom would tell us that just because something looks alright doesn’t mean it is, and in today’s world it’s essential to seek God’s wisdom in our decisions, relationships and the situations we find ourselves in. As a result I have been asking God to give me discernment about what is truth, where and when things are hidden or situations not as they seem.

The Titanic is a sobering example of how something can look one way on the surface, but be quite another story underneath. The Titanic was one of the largest and most opulent ships in the world for its time, but it was no match for a massive iceberg lying beneath the surface.

10% of an iceberg’s total mass is typically visible, as its weight means that most of the bulk is under the surface. Scientists believe the Titanic’s iceberg was over 30 metres in height above the water and a massive 121.92 metres beneath the water line.

Everyone believed the Titanic to be unsinkable and that there was not even the need for sufficient lifeboats on board.  When warned seven times of sea ice in the area, the Captain and his officers still failed to slow down or take the conditions seriously.  Pride and arrogance got in the way of sound judgement and precautionary measures been taken. Over 1500 lives were lost and history documents to us all of how vital it is to examine what is beneath the surface, and that the so called wisdom of man is not foolproof or beyond mistakes.

God, however promises to lead us in the way we should go and gives daily wisdom to those who seek Him with their whole hearts. He doesn’t want us to suffer Titanic like catastrophe’s and drama. But for us to walk in his ways, it does take humility, patience, seeking Him for direction, and laying aside our wisdom to take on His Heavenly wisdom. (John 16)

Today, and especially in the hour we live in, I encourage you to seek God as to which way to go and to whom you should believe, listen to and trust. Jesus promised us that He would guide us into all truth and reveal things to come, so trust Him to be faithful, and don’t simply believe everything you hear or are told. Man’s wisdom is fallible and can be flawed, but God’s is eternal and full of light and truth.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:5-7)

God is not a man that he should lie, not a human that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise an not fulfil.” (Numbers 23:19)

Prayer: Lord, I ask for your wisdom and guidance as I go through my day and in every decision and move I make. Show me the way Lord and give me understanding and discernment today. In Jesus name Amen.
