4 September -I get to call Him Dad!

i get to call him dad

It’s Father’s Day in my part of the world. In our house that means breakfast in bed for my husband, and the Dad to our six kids. It means coffee, presents, a plethora of cuddles, kisses, and enthusiastic kids piling onto the bed early in the morning. Its funny photo’s being posted on face book, and yummy food. It means sharing our morning with our church family, the giving of rocky road, and the consumption of lots more food.

Father’s day is also a time when we get to reflect and take time to focus on someone else; our heavenly Father – God! The ultimate loving, forgiving, ever patient Father who just happened to also create the Universe.

The amazing fact to remember on Father’s day, and every day actually, is that God, who some know as their Heavenly Father invites all of us to “call Him Dad”.

That’s right, you get to call and know God as your Dad! He wants us to relate to and know Him as our loving, compassionate Dad, who is always busy planning good things for us. He consistently, without fail has blessing on His mind for us.

Sometimes that may be difficult to understand, especially if we have not experienced that sort of relationship with our earthly father’s.

Today if you are struggling with your concept of God as a loving, trustworthy, caring Dad, who only wants the best for you, I want to encourage you to look at God through the perspective that Jesus gave of Him.

Jesus came to earth to reveal what God is like; that He heals all who come to Him, that He destroys evil, rejoices with truth, and is ever patient, and loving. That He is not seeking to judge us, but to draw all men, women and children to Himself. Read through the bible in Matthew, Mark. Luke and John and see the heart of the Father for all mankind. That’s the true picture!

Today, know that the very one who spoke and the world came into being; the one that made the tiniest insect and the tallest mountain, sees and knows all about you. He wants you to know today He loves you, and that you can call Him Dad!

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (John 1:17)

Prayer: Lord sometimes it’s hard to comprehend just how much you love me. Help me to understand that you see me. You see me when I’m happy, when I’m feeling great and when I’m not. You see me because you know me. You have always known me. (Psalm 139) Help me to let go of any insecurity, pride, and trust issues and accept your love for me; that I may call you my Dad.
