If there is one thing we are usually not very good at it is waiting, and especially it seems when we are waiting on God’s timing. We all want good things to happen in our lives, but we want them now rather than later. However most things in life come through process, and process takes time. But God causes things to happen at exactly the right time! Our job is not to figure out when, but to make up our mind that we won’t give up until we cross the finish line.
God wants us to be able to get to the point where we trust Him to bring everything to pass in our life that He has planned for us. The more we get to know Him, the more trust Him because we realise He only wants the best for us. We actually don’t have to know everything that is going to happen, we just have to know that He is in control and everything is going to be alright.
God gives us hopes and dreams for certain things to happen in our lives, but He doesn’t always allow us to see the exact timing of His plan. Perhaps because there are times when we might give up if we knew how long it was going to take, or how long the process was going to be. It’s in our times of waiting that God accomplishes what He needs to in our lives. He stretches our faith to bring change and growth, but without the waiting process change does not happen.
There is however a wrong way, and a right way to wait. If we wait the wrong way we’ll be miserable, and we’ll no doubt make everyone else miserable around us too. But if we decide to wait God’s way, we can become patient, and with practice even discover how to enjoy the wait. We learn to go with what God is doing in and around us each day. Instead of resenting the wait, we can decide to enjoy the journey and the process, and all that God is perfecting in our life. The bible says as we wait patiently we grow and lack nothing, and are completely satisfied.
“But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing”. (James 1:4)
We can waste a lot of time wondering about God’s timing, but if we look through the bible at the lives of people like Joseph, Moses, the Israelites, and David, we’ll see that wherever people had to wait, God never failed to take care of them and show them what He wanted them to do. The same is true in our lives. God’s perfect timing is our training period, where He simply requires us to do what He tells us to do, when He tells us to do it. When we accept God’s timing, we can learn to live with an expectation of the good things ahead, and then choose to enjoy life while God is working in us and on our behalf.
Today trust God, and set your heart to believe that He wants only the best for you. Believing brings rest, so stop trying to figure everything out, and let God be God in your life as you wait.
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognise, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths”. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
“I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God. My times are in your hands”.(Psalm 31:14-15)
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Prayer: Lord help me to learn how to wait and rest in you. Help me to understand and know that you only have good things in store for me, and that when I have to wait it is because you are working in, and for me. In Jesus Name Amen.
