I have a painting that is sitting against the wall in my office/studio. It’s been “talking” to me and asking me to pay it attention to finish it. The problem is my daily schedule isn’t making room for this painting and instead it remains leaning against the wall.
Many of us struggle with prioritising time to those things which are key to who we are. However our daily schedule is merely a confronting reflection of these priorities and what we do or don’t value in our life.
My painting is a great example of how I allow other things and people to crowd my schedule, but it’s not other people’s fault or responsibility to fix this. My unfinished painting is a blatant sign I am not valuing or prioritising who I am enough.
If we don’t value who we are, we won’t give ourselves permission to pursue the things that are key to who we were created to be. Instead we can struggle our whole lives with the thinking, “if only”, or “I could have” which is no way to live the life God planned for us. Life passes far to quickly to remain in such a space!
The root cause of much of our lack of prioritising and poor time management is based in a lack of self worth and misunderstanding of what God thinks is important. Unfortunately this can also be reinforced by the message within church circles that, “if your’e not using your gifting and abilities in a “spiritual way” or in” serving others” in the traditional sense, then who and what you are is not as valuable”.
Whereas God is the one who gave us the abilities and gifts we have and He desires that we express and use them. Whether that’s within the church or out in the marketplace and community. Primarily He wants us to know joy; (He paid a high price to make it available to us), and when we are doing and being who God made us to be we will invariably glorify and direct people to Him the most. (John 10:10)
Today take a look at your daily schedule and the things you are prioritising and therefore valuing most in your life. Are they actually what you want to be doing and things that bring you joy, or have you succumbed to believing your calling and dreams are not important and have therefore let them go or put them on the back burner? If so I encourage you to seek God and to ask him to heal and restore your self esteem and the dreams in your heart.
I believe God’s heart for us all is that we would, “Be who He meant us to be, for then we will set the world on fire”. (Catherine of Sienna)
Jesus valued you enough to die for you. What matters to you matters to Him, and His plan is always to make things bigger and better in our lives.
“Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energises you.” (Ephesians 3:20 TPT)
“I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect – life in its fullness until you overflow!” (John 10:10 TPT)
Prayer: Lord please help me to identify any areas where I have undervalued who I am. I ask you would open my eyes and heart to better understand my worth and to prioritise those things that make me unique. I want to set the world on fire and to fulfil all that you have for my life. In Jesus name Amen.
