7 Feb – How To Begin Again

I was recently playing a game of “Take two” with our youngest son Isaac. “Take two” is a fast-thinking word game where you shuffle letter tiles and quickly create your words. It’s a race against your opponent to Take Two!”.

I was busy playing, taking tiles and adding words where I could, when I  realised I had come to a point where I could no longer make any words. I was stuck! Which is when I had to decide, ‘do I concede and lose the game or do I take a risk, regroup my tiles and begin again?” I chose to start over which was the right decision and enabled me to keep playing.

Playing Take 2 reminded me of how often we are faced with similar choices when we come up against obstacles, or we’ve lost enthusiasm in life. We have a great idea, start chasing our dreams and goals, put the work into getting it off the ground and then somewhere in the process we lose momentum. We get stuck, face obstacles and lose steam. We are going to need to begin again or risking giving up.

Some steps to BEGIN AGAIN is to look at our goals with a fresh perspective and examine what God has placed in our hearts so we can determine to GROW.

Goal – what do you want to achieve? Reevaluate your original vision and plan and revisit your Why? Why did you have this goal in the first place, and what did God say about it?

Creating a vision board with your top 10 goals for the year is a great tool to keep you focused and remind you daily.

Reality – assess where you are now and work out the difference between where you are now and your goal.

Options– what options do you have to take you forward from your current reality towards your goal.

Brainstorm 20 things you can do to help you begin and move forward again. The first five will be relatively easy to think of but push yourself to think of 20 to help you have a more creative and innovative.

Willing -are you willing to pay the price and put the work in to achieve your goals? What action are you going to take and do you have the will to do it.

God promises He will equip and strengthen us as we partner with Him. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.’ (Proverbs 16:3)

It’s also a helpful idea to share your goals with someone who you can be accountable and encouraged by. “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls, one can help the other up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14)

Are you stuck or realising you’ve lost momentum? Be encouraged because God never gives up on us, and has a way through.

Today look at your goals, be realistic about where you are now, assess all your options, and prayerfully consider what you’re willing to do to begin again to move forward.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your strength and encouragement today. I ask that you help me focus on what is really important in my life, and to make the most of the opportunities and time you bless me with today. Thank you that I can do all things with you as my strength. In Jesus name Amen.
