Our youngest daughter informed me today that I am eighteen thousand, one hundred and forty-nine days old today and have lived 26 million, one hundred and thirty-four thousand, five hundred and sixty minutes.
Thinking about how long it’s been since I was born makes me wonder what we all do with our time, especially when statistics report that 1.4 billion adults spend six hours and forty four minutes on social media every week. Plus the average person will watch 3,639 movies and 31,507 episodes of television, amounting to a staggering 78,705 hours of television in their lifetime.
If we keep on doing the same things, we will keep getting the same results, yet how many of us go from one week to the next continually doing, thinking and talking the same old things. We are creatures of habit and routine and the things we did yesterday have brought us to the life we have today, but how much more life could we all be living?
The twenty six million minutes I have lived caused me to think about what I have achieved, the lives I have impacted, and the people and places I have been blessed by. It caused me to consider what we can all do differently so that we can enjoy more those things that matter, and what we can change to create a better tomorrow.
To help give yourself a kick start to making the most of all the precious hours and minutes in your day:
Think and pray about what kind of life God has put in your heart that you want to see, achieve and experience. Jesus said He came to give us life and life abundant. What does that look like for you? (John 10:10)
Find out what God thinks and what His Word says about the desires and dreams in your heart. Allow Him to speak into your life so that He can help you succeed.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)
List ten things that you would like to explore, attempt, or master and make a plan to go and do them.
Write these ideas down and put them somewhere visible so you can remain focused and pray over them. (Making a vision board is a great way to do this)
Form a strategy and then take a step to stretch and challenge yourself so that tomorrow’s results are different from today’s.
Stop living as if your life is a rehearsal and go and live it. Because the choices you make today will be who you are tomorrow.
“The plans of the diligent lead to life.” (Proverbs 21:5)
“So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
Prayer: Lord, please help me the most of this wild and precious life you have given me. Would you guide me in making a plan so I can begin today. In Jesus name Amen.
