If there is one place we would all benefit from in this day and hour it is finding our “seat of rest”. When I say that I mean when we find and choose to live from a place of rest, peace and wholeness. There is only one place I know that has this place and it’s in relationship and oneness with Jesus. He is our “seat of rest”, and in Him we can live from a place of wholeness, peace and joy.
However I have discovered that we can lose that place of rest in Jesus even when we find it. We can lose our peace and being “seated in rest” when we allow ourselves to be weighed down by burdens and cares we were never designed for, or meant to carry. We can let ourselves be pushed off our “seat of rest” into the turmoil and troubles all around us. Instead of staying seated above all the drama, we can get dragged down and distracted by those things that seek to steal and rob us of our peace and rest in God. But that’s not God’s plan or best for us.
Most of us would say that we desire and long to live in peace, and many times we may even hear ourselves saying, “I just need some peace and quiet”. That’s due to the fact that we actually all need and require rest, relief, ease, refreshment, recreation and quiet, so that we can prosper in life, and not spend our days struggling and toiling. Jesus knew the importance of this when He said, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for you souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”… (Matthew 11:28-30)
Jesus asks us to take His yoke upon us, as we are joined to Him. When you are yoked to something or someone, you go where they go, and you do what they do; meaning that when we are yoked to Jesus through a relationship with Him, He sets the path and the direction we take. We have Jesus to carry the load, and all we need do is spend our time and energy learning from Him how to live at rest.
The bible says that, “In Him we live and move and have our being”. (Acts 17:29) That’s because when we ask Jesus into our lives He abides within us by His Spirit. His ability, His power, His wisdom, His understanding, His peace, His joy, His rest is all within us, because He is in us and we are in Him. We can as the disciple John did, rest back on Jesus, and allow Him to take the load and the lead. He’s got all we need and we are complete in Him. (John 13:23)
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form. And you have been made complete in Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10)
Jesus said, “In a little while, the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.” (John 14:19-20)
Today, find your seat of rest in Jesus. Cast all your cares and worries upon Him for He cares for you, and then take it easy. Relax, cease worrying and simply “kick back” and rest in Him for He is your “seat of rest.”
Prayer: Jesus thank you that you have everything covered, and that you are in control. Help me to keep my peace as I rest in you. In Jesus Name Amen.
