I watched a video recently of the last stages of a tunnel being excavated. The outline of what was to be the tunnel entrance was marked out on the rock wall, but other than that, there was no visible evidence of what was going on or about to emerge.
As I watched, an earth-shaking noise could be heard as metal from the giant drilling machine made contact repeatedly with the solid rock, and smoke started to pour out of the emerging hole in the rock face. As I watched, the rock crumbled away until finally, only the drilling machine previously concealed behind the rock wall was visible, and the tunnel entrance was formed.
Life is much like a tunnel excavation. We often don’t see what is happening behind the scenes and how God works in the hidden places. However, as we keep walking with Him, He will continually be “drilling” and clearing the way forward to make a path for us even where it seemed there was no way.
Just as there is a lot of expectation mixed with uncertainty amidst the noise and smoke whilst building a tunnel, our journey and how God works in our lives can look the same. All the excavation work that goes into making a pathway for reaching our destination isn’t often pretty or comfortable, especially when you are close to a breakthrough. However, the celebration and exhilaration of seeing the rocks fall, the smoke clear, and a pathway through to our dreams and destiny are worth it.
Today if all you see is a rock wall and you have the feeling that nothing is happening, be encouraged that God will be at work.
You may not feel, see or hear anything, but be assured God, who specializes in bringing light to our darkest moments and causing beauty to spring up from desert places, will be moving.
As you follow and look to Him today, know that He promises to make a way for you, even if that way means He has to part the seas or make mountains move to do it. He will cause beauty to emerge from your ashes and new life to spring up in your desert places, for He is the burden buster, highway maker, curse breaker and has promised to complete all He has started in you.
“Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed.” (Isaiah 40:4-5)
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6)
“And a great road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness.” (Isaiah 35:8)
“Even the wilderness and desert will be glad in those days. The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy….
With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear”, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.” (Isaiah 35:1-3)
“I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:16-19)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are working even when I don’t see or feel it and that you are making highways right now for my breakthrough and to reach my destination. I trust you today to continue to lead and guide me. In Jesus name Amen.
