We had a first for one of our children this week. Our youngest child Isaac has his first loose tooth. He’s been waiting for this to happen, and was rather excited when he discovered it was wobbly. This excitement then turned into worry as he wondered what having a wobbly tooth might mean. He decided he didn’t really want to loose any of his teeth! Me on the other hand, was reminiscing about when he first go that little baby tooth, that is now about to fall out.
Life is full of first’s. From our first tooth, first day at school, first sleepover, first job, first car, first boyfriend or girlfriend, first big trip away from home, first house, first child etc. As with all “first’s” there is the excitement stage as you realise that what you have been waiting for is about to arrive. You’ve been dreaming and thinking about this moment for so long, and now you can see it happening.
But it’s at that moment that things can get a little scary for some of us. Our “new first” can suddenly feel quite intimating. Much like Isaac suddenly realising he is about to get a new tooth. There is a stage before that “new thing” arrives when we know we are going to have to breakthrough, and that process may not be especially comfortable. Like that tooth that has to breakthrough and push the old out. It’s not very comfortable, but without the breaking through it can’t happen.
It ‘s good to remember in these “breaking through” moments that God is there for us, and that He knows what we are going through. When we are feeling intimated by the process we can turn to God and His word and build ourselves up in what and who He says we are. New things usually mean a new level of trust and faith, especially if we want to function at a higher level of faith to possess the “new thing” in our life.
“God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble“.(Psalm 46:1)
“Our WORD level has to be equal to our WANT level”. The bigger the “first’s” in our life and the bigger the desire of our heart, then the more of God’s word we need operating in our lives. When there is more pressure to push through, or the need is great, it’s important to discover and remind ourselves of God’s word and promises, even if that means taking some extra time to do so. His word has creative, dynamic power in it, and when we take hold of it, it goes into operation in our life.
“For the word of God is alive and active”. (Hebrews 4:1)
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.” (Jeremiah 1:12)
If you are looking at a “first” in your life and the process of breaking through looks intimidating, take courage for God is with you, and He is the “God of the breakthrough” (2 Samuel 5:20). Take the time to make the WORD level in your life equal to the WANT level! Those first’s, those blessings, that breakthrough is on the way. Sometimes it just needs a bit more of a push, to get it into our hands.
Today, take heart and be of good courage. Keep hold of God and His promises as you break through for the new.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Prayer: Lord thank you that you are the God of the breakthrough. Help me to make the level of your Word in my life, equal to the desires of my heart. I see the new on the way. In Jesus Name Amen.
