17 May – Expect good things!

good things

God’s got a plan and it’s all-good! Actually good is not a big or descriptive enough word to explain the plans He has for us.

I love the passage in the bible that says just how much goodness God wants to bestow upon us. It says, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, with Him, grant us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

Actually there is more – the bible says, “every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)

If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11)

“They who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.” (Psalm 34:10)

There is no end to His goodness, but we can limit the flow of it by trying to do things our way, or when we hold onto unforgiveness, bitterness, or refuse to let go, and let God into our lives. I discovered that to receive all that God wants to bestow on me, and to experience His goodness more deeply I have to let go, and let God. Sounds simple enough, but it’s a daily surrender of my will and emotions to Him, and a decision to focus upon, and be open to receiving the good things He freely desires to give me.

To receive God’s goodness we have to let go of the past, of disappointments, of mindsets that it’s going to be hard, of expectations of lack, sickness, and low self esteem and worth. Often the picture we have of ourselves, and of any good happening in our lives is far below God’s heart for us. This poor image and low expectation can definitely limit our feelings of worthiness and faith to receive, and the belief that God would choose to do good things in our lives.

Today take another look at what God says about bestowing His goodness upon you. Jesus gave His very life to set us free from every evil, so how will He not also grant us ALL things. He says He will actually fill our mouths with good things. That He forgives us of all our wrong doing when we come to him and ask forgiveness, heals all our diseases, redeems our life from destruction, and crowns our lives with loving-kindness and mercy; and then to top it off He fills our mouths with good things and renews our youth so we can further enjoy everything He has for us. (Psalm 103:2-5). Expect God’s goodness to shower upon you today.

Prayer: Lord thank you for your goodness and desire to fill my life with your goodness. I really don’t have to be afraid to let go and let you into all of my life, because you only ever want good things for me, far beyond what I could ever imagine. I receive your goodness today. In Jesus Name Amen. (Ephesians 3:20)
