19 March – Did you learn to love?

did you learn to love 2

Did you learn to love?” Did you learn to love through your life? This is the question we will all no doubt be asked when we have lived this life, and must give an account for all we have said and done.

For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God”. So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. (Romans 14:11-12)

But so often we become very focused on so many things in life. We work hard to contribute something, and to use our gifts and talents that God has blessed us with. This is a good thing to do, as Jesus wants us to use all the talents and abilities he has blessed us with.

We want to be successful and prosperous, which are all valid goals. God actually desires for us to prosper and to be successful at whatever we put our hand to; so much so that Proverbs 13:22 says a “good person leaves an inheritance for their children”

Jesus said that He came that we might have a long abundant life. (John 10:10; Psalm 91)

But there is also something that Jesus instructs us clearly to do and be above all else, and that is to learn to love, and to live our lives in and through that context.

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. “(Luke 10:27)

Even if we were to give everything up for the poor, or understood all mysteries and had great knowledge and faith that could move mountains, but had not love then it would profit us nothing.

It’s learning and living to love God, and those around us that truly matters. There is faith, hope and love but the greatest is love. (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)

Today ask yourself how are you going in the love area? Are you seeking to love God more and to love others; and is love your motivation in the way you live your life?

If not God says we can come to Him and He will give us all we need, and fill the empty places in our hearts so that we can love like He loves. His love in our hearts will then move us with compassion, grace and patience, just as He is. He is the one who fills our hearts to overflowing with love so that everything we do and say ends up being centred in LOVE!

Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)

Today ask yourself, are you learning to love and then giving that love away to others?

Prayer: Lord please fill my heart with love so that I can love like you love. In Jesus name Amen.
