24 May – Learning to Trust

images (29)

The thing about trusting someone else is that it often means trusting them to in some way provide. To provide emotional, mental, spiritual or physical support, and for us to open our hearts to them.

For those of us who are more independent and want to or who’ve had to take care of ourselves, trusting someone else can be difficult. Difficult because all our attitudes about people, our circumstances and any trust issues we have will come to the surface where we are given the choice as to whether we will open our hearts or not.

God however repeatedly asks us to trust Him and to have growing, open-hearted, honest relationships. He wants  us is to learn to trust Him to lead and guide us; to trust Him that He has our best interests in mind and that He is good and loving; to trust Him to provide for all our needs and to grant us the desires of our heart. A natural by-product of learning to trust God like that is that we also learn to trust ourselves and others more.

However trust doesn’t happen without a knowledge of the one we are trusting and choosing to grow a healthy relationships. We dont need to trust everyone – that would be foolish, but to really achieve and become all we were created to be we are going to need both God’s and other people’s input and support and to trust them to do that for us.

But trust takes time to build as we gain an understanding of God’s extreme love for us, and then learn to recognize those same trustworthy qualities in other people. However if we consistently choose to keep everyone at arms length we wont see who we can trust, even when they Dan be right in front of us.

The question and decision we get to make everyday is, “Will we seek to trust God to love and care for all our needs, help us achieve the dreams in our hearts and bring people into our life to make our lifes richer? Or will we keep our hands tightly on the reins, only trusting ourselves, never letting anyone else in close and then wonder why we feel so tired, lonely and anxious all the time?”

The thing is with God on our side we actually don’t have to be in control of everyone and everything in our life. Living like that all the time is actually quite exhausting. Instead God simply and repeatedly says in His Word, “Trust me. I know everything about you and I’ve got you and all that concerns you covered”.

Today I encourage you to take some time to get to know God more so you can discover for yourself you can trust Him. Then take some steps each day to open up your heart to those who have the same trustworthy traits that God has, and who will help you become the person God always purposed for you to be.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight”. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Prayer: Lord please help me to get to know you more, and to learn to trust you and other people more. sus name Amen
