26 April - Calling Evil Good

I’ve been thinking about how the world can think and tell us that evil things are good, as in entertaining, attractive, and worth spending your time and money on. Interestingly there is also the thought that good things, as in standing for righteousness, peace, and purity, are evil and to be ridiculed and frowned upon.

In the face of all this pressure, it is perfectly reasonable to question what other people, the media and the popular press say are the latest things to watch, do, and talk about. Because if we don’t challenge the status quo when it smashes up against what Jesus and His word say, then we can easily end up being like that frog in hot water who doesn't realise the temperature until it's been damaged.

“If you put a frog straight into boiling water, it would jump straight out. But, slowly increase the temperature, and the frog will stay there.”

Today don’t be like a frog and start to think and believe that evil is good and darkness light because you've got in the habit of entertaining that which is not good. Ask Jesus to help you see the truth and the difference between light and darkness so you can choose well the way in which you will live.

If you aren’t sure what is good and what is evil, search Jesus’ words in the bible so that you grow to recognise and become sensitive to what is happening around you, enabling you to make wise choices. A helpful guidepost is always to consider and ask yourself, “What would Jesus do and say right now?” and then follow that. He will help you to know good from evil and to see things for what they really are.

“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees, and laws; then you will live and increase.” (Duet 30:15-16)

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isa. 5:20).

“Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22)

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

Prayer: Lord, please give me a heart of wisdom to know the difference between light and darkness, good and evil, and choose the path that you would have me follow. In Jesus’ name Amen.
