While on my early morning run this morning I rounded a corner and ended up facing a sudden head wind. I sometimes run a circuit, and as I came upon this wind resistance, which instantly made my run harder, I was faced with a decision, ”do I just call it a day, and head home, or do I keep going”? Jesus is my running coach, and the moment I faced that head wind I heard a quiet voice within me whisper, “dig deep”.
Whatever we are undertaking to do, or be in life, there are going to be moments of resistance, pressure and the need to ”dig deeper”, so as to push through.
As we approach each day with it’s challenges and opportunities, it pays to remember that we all at certain times need to dig deep. To dig deeper into who we are, into our identity in Jesus; and to dig deeper into the revelation found in His Word.
When we dig deep, we are no longer just drawing on our own strength and abilities. When we know Jesus we are digging into heavens resources; into the power that raises the dead to life, opens blind eyes, unstops deaf ears and works miracles in our midst. When we dig deep, we tap into all that we are created and empowered to be in Jesus. It’s no longer just us that lives, but Christ who lives in us. (Galatians 2:20) All things become possible, and all limits upon our lives are off.
The best way to appropriate this resource is to “dig in”, and spend quality time with God, and in reading His word. When we dig into God’s word, we discover who He says we are, and who He is. Instead of being people who are buffeted about by every wind of change, or adversity, we become like mighty oak trees drawing deeply from streams of living water. The storms may blow, the pressures might come, but we will have our roots dug deep down into Jesus, enabling us to gain our strength, wisdom and power from Him.
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers”. (Psalm 1:1-3)
We are all able to dig deep, and as we do we are empowered to prosper, and to take hold of every challenge and opportunity. Dig deep into Jesus, and dig deeply into His word, and you’ll soon discover and be amazed at just how much you can be, and do in Him.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”. (Romans 8:37)
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
“However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that no matter what I may face this new year, I have all the resources and power of heaven within, and before me when I know you, and read your Word. Please remind me to dig deep, so that I can push past, and remain standing through anything that comes my way. In Jesus name Amen.
