1 July – Self awareness – God awareness

The importance of being self aware goes further than just being aware of our feeling, thoughts and emotions and how they are affecting us and others.

Being self aware is imperative to us having an awareness of God, and our need of Him in our life. If we are not self aware we will not recognise our shortcomings, attitudes and behaviors and our feelings of guilt and need for cleansing and forgiveness from them.

Without being self aware we will not register adequately how our behaviour and attitudes are affecting and possibly hurting others. We often will not recognise our God given talents and abilities and the opportunities He puts in our path. We can become so unaware that we wander through life in a “foggy haze”

With greater self awareness comes a greater God awareness.” When we are aware of ourselves, and the deep things of our heart, we will also find God calling us from that place.

If we know Him already it is in this place of awareness within us that we learn that “If God dwells within us, then everything we do is in the presence of God”.

St Augustine said, “Why climb the mountains or go down into the valleys of the world looking for Him who dwells within us.”

Developing an awareness of God and His presence simply means recognising this, keeping it in our thoughts and living like we really mean it. Imagine how different life would be if we were always aware of being in God’s loving presence? Even the smallest tasks would be meaningful, we’d treat everyone with greater love; every word we’d say could be said in union and connection with God.

The bible says it this way, “For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)

Today be encouraged that God is so near you. If you don’t know Him, spend time listening, for He is calling you. Take the time to examine your life and any hurt, or need of forgiveness and freedom from guilt you may have and the awareness that comes that we need God, we need forgiveness. We need something we don’t have in ourselves.

If you know God, spend time developing and awareness of Him within you. He is closer than the air we breathe and is in all and everything. If you look for Him and listen you will see and hear Him all around you.

We have “One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:6)

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”. (Psalm 34:18)

Prayer: Lord help me to be self aware of my need of you, and to be more aware of your presence in every part of my day. In Jesus Name Amen.
