1 Mar - We Are Surrounded

Today I’ve been helping one of our children prepare for an operation which they aren’t too happy about. They have had some bad experiences with the medical fraternity in the last few months, and because of that, there is a certain amount of anxiety surrounding tomorrow.

However, in amongst the uncertainty and anxiety about tomorrow’s operation, I keep on remembering that God has our life in his hands and that His angels and protection surround us.

I was reminded of a visit to the hospital several years ago where the surgeon needed to have pinpoint precision to remove a rose thorn from my thumb. There had been significant debate regarding how anyone was going to locate during surgery the tiny tip of a thorn that was causing my thumb to be infected and swollen and needed to be urgently removed.

While in the theatre waiting area, I was praying and entrusting the procedure to God, thanking Him that He was in control. Suddenly I heard a sound and, like in a vision, saw a line of angels enter the room and form a semi-circle around my bed. I asked why so many angels had arrived and felt the Lord say, “I’m not taking any chances with you, and they are there to help”. I was surrounded, and I felt instantly protected.

Soon after, I was wheeled into surgery, and my hand was anesthetised. My plastic surgeon cut open my thumb and, to his great surprise, located the offending thorn within seconds.

Those angels, I think, were helping out, and within minutes the Doctor was stitching up my hand, and I was wheeled back out of the operating theatre.

The bible talks about angels being ministering spirits sent to help us… “Are they, not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?” and that “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.” (Hebrews 1:14; Psalm 37:4)

God has our backs, and all throughout His Word, we find promises that He will send aid when we need it. He closes the mouths of lions, delivers from the fire, overrides natural forces, heals and restores and works miracles of provision. What we need and request He promises to be acting upon to fulfil His Word to us, making all things work together for our good.

‘For God is [actively] watching over His word to fulfil it.” (Jeremiah 1:12 AMP)

Today don’t waste your day being stressed about the what if’s of what you may be facing or the news reports of disaster, war, disease and pestilence. Focus instead on the day ahead of you, on what God says in His Word, living healthily, focusing on your purpose and goals, enjoying your life, using common sense and trusting God to take care of the rest.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

“Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings, you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” (Psalm 91:1-7)

“Surely he (Jesus) took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.” (Isaiah 54:3-4)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 54:10)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you keep me safe and watch over my life. Please help me remain focused on my purpose and not allow any fear or work of evil to distract or cause me to start to live in fear. Thank you that I can rest in the shelter of your protection today. In Jesus name Amen.
