It's my birthday today, and I'm thankful that I have been blessed with another year to celebrate. I think it's a positive way to look at things, especially as the older you get, the more you realise not everyone gets the opportunity to live so well or reach my age. So today, I am thankful.
As I celebrate with most of my immediate family this weekend, we are also moving house, so today has been a little more chaotic than most years. It's been full of locating clothing, kitchen utensils, assembling furniture, washing, and trying to find the lost TV remote, which has strangely disappeared…I have not been allowed to do very much as everyone has insisted I must relax as it's my birthday, so I have been watching the activity around me and chuckling to myself that enjoying and being thankful for life is not always about everything being perfect, organised or how we like it. It's also about embracing the beautiful moments within the chaos, seeing the funny side of things and not getting too stressed or focusing on drama that isn't really a drama.
Ultimately I think God wants us to learn to love and appreciate life, the life he's given in every season and situation, and it's not everything being perfect that He cares about most.
Today I encourage you to remember to be thankful for each and every day and not to get too distracted or upset by the minor inconveniences or annoyances in your day. Most of what stresses and we allow ourselves to be concerned about we won't even remember in twenty years' time, and the not so perfect moments are often the ones we remember and have a laugh about later.
You get to live another day today, so I pray that you have an amazing one and that you find joy in the journey and recognise God's hand and goodness upon your life today.
"It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." –Charles Spurgeon.
"This is the very day of the Lord that brings gladness and joy, filling our hearts with glee." (Psalm 118:24 TPT)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for today and all you have given me. Please help me have joy in the journey, bring to you any cares and concerns, and trust that you will work everything out for my good. In Jesus name Amen.
